He watched the blond teenager from a distance. He followed him from a greater distance. There was nothing really special about the teenager for a normal person. The only reason he was on the street was to buy the new Percy Jackson book and some chocolate. He didn't even walk any more than three miles.
But he knew that wasn't any ordinary teenager. That was Mello, one of the smartest kids alive. His real name, well, that's better not said.
Mello was a lot more confident than other kids his age. He would walk with his head up, always with a slight smile.
He envied Mello. He just had to.
He wasn't fond of what he had to do to Mello, but it had to be done.
One dreadful week later...
L squeezed his eyes shut as he swallowed down the three pills. He opened them once they were down, setting down the glass of water he was holding.
The antibiotics seemed to work, he was feeling much better and his fever had gone yesterday. He did come down with coughing, sometimes wet coughs, but compared to his situation a week ago, it was major improvement. In fact, he was back on the case.
The stress and nightmare pills didn't work. Well, they did in their own way, but they didn't help L. They only made him feel unnaturally relaxed. He felt trapped in his own body. In fact, he started to panic when he got that feeling. It was like one of those nightmares where you couldn't talk or move with your own will. Something else was controlling you.
L had stopped taking those two days ago, even though he was supposed to continue taking them.
Watari, in that case, made L take breaks in his investigations to just sit down and relax. He had even unblocked Tumblr and iFunny. But L had taken a break from his computer and instead sat down to read the last book in the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series.
Even though L could figure out the ending halfway through the book, they were addicting.
But then Watari ruined his little paradise in his room. He pushed open the windows, saying, "This place needs fresh air. The air smells sick."
"Watari! I can't get sick again with the same germs! I'm immune!" L complained.
"Ever thought of the possibility that I might get sick? Besides, you still need fresh air. There isn't enough oxygen going around."
"But that's a poison."
Watari sighed. "L, maybe you should just go outside. But stay away from the Cold Stone."
"Don't worry, I know a bunch of other sweets places around." L got up, bringing his book with him. He was now used to being kicked out of the house for fresh air. After all, Watari would do that all the time.
Even if L wouldn't live long, Watari was still concerned about his health. That also included the same report he got from doctors every year: it's apparently not okay for an adult about 5' 8" to weigh a little over 100 pounds.
Really, there was nothing L could do about it. He did eat a lot, and that year of eating disorders was long ago and didn't affect this year's reports.
L stepped outside, looking up at the cloudy sky. Yesterday, there was lightning. Apparently it was common in California around this time. So L figured out that California wasn't all clubbing and beaches. He hadn't experienced an earthquake yet, but Watari made him go over the safety rules, just in case. Two years ago, there was a medium-bad one down in La Habra.
