Everything felt a little like a dream; voices floating in the background, a steady beeping noise, a cold yet feverish feeling. It felt like L wasn't even there.Except he did know one thing for sure: he was screwed.
He felt a cold hand grip his wrist, suddenly brining him back to his body and awareness. The voices became sharp, alert. The beeping noise turned into a heart monitor. And the cold feeling faded, but the feverish feeling remained.
He was at a hospital most likely. It was such a terrible place for him, since they would always ask the worst questions.
"Why do you have 'ANDY' with a backward N written on the bottom of your foot?"
"Why don't you fucking help me instead of asking about the Toy Story reference I put onto the bottom of my foot?"
Fat chance.
L finally exhaled, not knowing that he was holding his breath. He opened his eyes and was instantly blinded.
He covered his eyes with his hand, waiting for them to adjust.
In the meantime, he tried to make sense of the one sentence he could hear properly, which was said in American-English: "What is he doing here?"
Yeah, L thought, what am I doing here?
What had happened for him to end up here? He surely would remember getting hurt badly.
When he could finally see properly, he saw two doctors standing on either side of Watari, who looked as calm and collected as always.
It was a quality L did not possess.
"Watari..." was the first word that came out of L's mouth. Nobody seemed to be really surprised.
L did remember the time he woke up after passing out and said something along the lines of "coconut water sucks."
Watari had looked so worried when he said that. Nobody could blame him. L had never tried coconut water in his life. He must have seemed like he was possessed.
The first thing L had done after that incident was try coconut water, and he was right, it was horrible.
Watari smiled when he heard L's voice. He kneeled on the floor, taking L's hand. "Good afternoon, Ryuzaki. How are you feeling?"
L couldn't respond right away. His mind was still a little clouded, and he had to carefully think about his sentences. But he replied honestly. "Terrible."
"You haven't changed." Watari seemed happy to say that.
L took note of that and came to the conclusion that something really bad must have happened to him. And he asked. "What happened to me?"
This time one of the doctors spoke. "It was just stress, Ryusaki. Your heart did stop, but not for long."
L heard the heart monitor speed up at those words. Stress? Damn, he had so much stress in his life that if that heart attack of his was caused by it, he would have had at least ten by now. There had to be another reason...but did they even know what it was?
"I suggest you rest and stop with all that caffeine. Somebody your age can live without five a day." The doctor continued.
L felt heat rise to his face in anger. He probably could live without coffee, but it was his routine, and something about his life had to stay as a constant. Or else he might lose his mind.
"You really don't remember anything, do you?" The other doctor asked.
L shook his head, closing his eyes and slumping into the pillows. Stupid questions. So apparently he nearly died of a heart attack at age 23, and they ask him if he remembers anything? Maybe focus on the "heart attack at age 23" part of it.
He heard the doctors leave, only him and Watari left in the room.
"You aren't fooling me, Ryuzaki."
I know.
This is sort of like the beginning, not yet the main point of the story. The chapters will get a lot longer, trust me.
And by the way, this isn't an AU. It fits perfectly into the plot of Death Note...you'll see how.
