It’s been a month since Chase and I have begun dating. It had been one of the best months of my life. Chase is so good to me. He treats me like a princess. He’s amazing and sweet and kind and… perfect. He’s just perfect. I dreamily closed my locker, before feeling a pair of strong arms wrap around my waist.
“Good morning beautiful.” He whispered in my ear.
“Good morning babe.” I said with a beaming smile, while turning around. His grey blue eyes sparkled as he looked at me. He didn’t waste any time before pressing his lips against mine. His lips molded into mine and we moved together in perfect harmony. He pulled out and placed his forehead against mine.
“I missed you this weekend.” He mumbled, his lips barely off of mine.
“I missed you too, but my dad wanted to see us.” I said pouting.
“Family is most important. We can hang out tonight, ok?” He said rubbing his nose slightly against mine.
“Ok.” I said smiling.
“Great. See you next period.” He replied before pecking my lips and walking off. I smiled before picking up my bag and walking towards Em’s locker. Soon, I felt someone bump into me.
“Watch it!” I spat at the petite girl.
“Sorry.” She mumbled while composing herself.
“Just don’t do it again.” I grumbled before walking the rest of the way to Emily’s locker.
“That was pretty harsh.” Em said upon my arrival.
“She should’ve been watching where she was walking.” I snapped back in response.
“Yea, I’m sure, but you didn’t have to been so mean about it.” She said sweetly.
“Are you really taking her side?” I asked shocked.
“I’m not, but…” She started but stopped. “Ashely, you’ve really changed.” She added.
“What do you mean?” I asked.
“I mean, you’ve changed. You’ve been getting snippy and rude. You’ve been skipping school. You’ve started dressing differently and acting differently and I’m pretty sure you are taking drugs. You’ve changed since you started dating Chase.” She said slightly angrily.
“I have not.” I rebutted angrily.
“Yes you have!” She replied.
“Ok. I’m sure I have changed, but everyone changes. No one ever stays the same. I’m not the same person I was yesterday or last week or last month, but neither are you! So before you go off and tell someone they’ve changed, remember that you have too!” I spat.
“At least when I change, I didn’t start dressing like a slut or take drugs with my boyfriend and his druggie friends.” She spat back.
“You bitch! I have not started dressing like a slut! And how can you even judge his friends? You’ve never even met them! You don’t know them!” I said, each word oozing with venom.
“Yea, and I don’t want to know them!” She replied.
“You know what. I don’t know what’s up with you today, if you’re on your period or what? But you’re acting like a complete and total bitch! So talk to me when you’ve calmed down.” I said before turning around and walking away. After a few steps someone came up next to me.
“Hey.” He mumbled. I looked up and saw Jared.
“Hey.” I replied with a small smile.
“I heard arguing. Are you ok?” He asked
“Yea. I’m fine.” I said forcing the tears that were pricking at my eyes back down.
“No you’re not. What was the argument about?” He asked placing a hand on my shoulder.
“Um… she said I changed. I don’t think I did. I know she didn’t mean everything that she said, but it still really hurt.” I said looking up at him.
“Well, Ash, everyone changes. You have changed a lot over the past month, but so has she and so have I. Everyone changes over time. Things happen that cause people to change. A lot of things. And I’m sure we all have different reasons to change. So, don’t sweat it. I’m sure she was only trying to look out for you. Maybe she shouldn’t have said everything she said, but you guys have been best friends for a very long time. She loves you. She’s really just trying to look out for you. Really don’t take it too personally. Just give her some time. She’ll come back and apologize and you guys will be as good as new.” He said smiling down at me.
“Thanks Jared. Really, I needed to hear that. Thank you.” I said returning his smile.
“No problem. I’m always here if you need someone to talk to. Whenever.” He said nodding.
“I know. Thanks Jared.” I said before reaching up and pulling him in a hug.
“You’re welcome.” He whispered before I pulled out and walked to my class. I reached Chase and he looked at me.
“What was that about?” He asked smiling down at me.
“Em and I got into an argument. He was just trying to comfort me. I’ll tell you about it later.” I said sadly before pecking his lips and walking in the class, with him trailing closely behind. I sat in my seat thinking about what had just happened. This had been Em and Mine’s first argument. I can’t believe it.
