"What are we doing after school?", I asked Matthew as we sat in our boring sixth period.
" I don't know. Maybe go to the park or get some coffee. Anything actually", he kindly repliedI silently nodded, shrugged, and then got up slowly from my seat as the last school bell rang. The high school campus was pretty big, so it was kind of a big walk from where our class was.
Matthew caught up to me as I slightly walked ahead of him. He put his arm around me as we both walked down the block to the park. He loved the park and so did I.
Matthew and I have been best friends since before birth. And that's sorta true. Both our Moms were best friends since high school and they literally planned both of their pregnancies to be close to each other. So I was born in April and Matthew was born in March.
After my mom died, I have been a little difficult to deal with. But I am very lucky to have Matthew, his family, and whats left of mine.
My dad is still dealing with his wife's death. He drinks all day long and he constantly goes to Mexico for God knows what. My brother, Andrew, has gone through a small (but big) spiraling depression for a 22 year old. Although my other brother, Damon, has been through more than my whole family put together because on top of my mothers death, Damon has been trying to figure his life out for a handsome and smart 19 year old. Mostly because he thinks that he's gay, but he doesn't know for sure.
I am the youngest (15) and hadn't really figured what I feel about my moms death and how to deal with everything and everyone around me. Its always floating around in my head. I can barely think because almost every responsibility falls on me now around the house.
As I am sitting with Matthew, all this starts to pop in my head and all of a sudden, I start to cry. Small tears stream from my eyes and down my cheeks. Matthew noticed and gently smoothens out my long black hair.
I look at him and he smiles, showing his straight pearl white teeth. He then had a look of alarm and I exchanged a look to him as well. He then tells me that he had to go to my house for something, I don't know, but I also didn't ask what for.
So we decided to go back to my house, but I told him that I had to stop by the store to get some things for my dad and brothers. So Matthew went on without me because he has a key and plus, there was someone there to let him in.
"Ill see you at the house, okay?", I asked him, waiting for his approval
He looked at me cautiously but then nodded simply and went down the street to my house and I went down the other way, to the store.
