Prologue

“No! Stop! Don’t do it! Please!” Nicole cried out.

The Attacker turned towards her and snarled,  “Shut up little girl! The more you scream the more painful it will be for them!” he said, pointing towards her unconscious older brother and parents.

“Please, just please. Take me, not them. They don’t deserve this.” Nicole whimpered. Her shirt was cut open in the back and she felt numb. She didn’t care about the pain. All she cared about was saving her family. The Attacker had cut a gash in the shape of a crescent moon from one shoulder blade to another in a moment of anger.

“Little girl... come to me. Come to me. Come to me.” The Attacker repeated and Nicole knew she would never forget those words in her life.

“This is all my fault. Not theirs. Stop! Please, you can’t do this! I love them! They are my family.” Nicole did not know how much she would blame herself for the deaths that occurred that day because of the words she had just uttered. They seemed to trigger what happened next.

She closed her eyes for just a second and three gunshots rang out, Nicole was too shocked to open her eyes knowing deep inside that they were gone. The only real family she had left. Gone. Forever.

“You know I wouldn't kill you, right? Just thirteen years old, huh? Why can't you be older? That would make it easier for all of us. Come to me, why don’t you?” The Attacker said tauntingly as Nicole slowly opened her eyes stared at the lifeless bodies on the floor. He stood in front of her menacingly. Like a predator watching his prey.

She couldn’t reply, she thought she would never speak again. All she could do was stare at her family. Nicole was about to let out a moan when she heard some sirens in the distance. The Attacker cursed loudly and the fear returned to her.

Nicole dropped to her knees and looked up to see the attacker about to leave when he turned to yell the words, “Happy birthday again, little girl. I can't take you now, because they would find you so easily. I’ll come back for you and when I do, you’d better come to me.”

Then everything went black.
