Chapter 16
Nicole pulled away, to see who it was. She recognized his voice, and it wasn’t her boyfriend’s. In fact, it was always back talking her in her writing class. What was he doing here? Why did he call her his girlfriend?
Before she could say anything, he yanked her towards him.
“Who the hell are you?” Mike asked.
“Whoa there, buddy! You must be Eric? I’m Kevin... her... friend.” Kevin asked, trying to steady him but was swatted away in the process.
“Hell yeah, I’m Eric. And you said friend? That better be it, buddy. Did she say I’m her ex? Because I’m not, man.” Mike said, pulling Nicole, who hadn’t said a word, closer. She could have sworn she saw Kevin smile.
“No. But she did mention that she loves you. And she wants to give you a chance to explain things that happened today.” Kevin said.
Mike looked at Nicole happily. “Did she now?”
“Yes.” Nicole simply said.
“Well, good for him, I mean me!” Mike said, grinning as he thought about what Kevin said.
“Now that it’s all good, we need to talk, right, Eric?” She turned and started dragging Mike with her.
Kevin didn’t wait for her to reply, he whistled for a cab and paid him 50 dollars to take Nicole anywhere. He seemed to have nodded at Mike before they sat inside, or was that in Nicole’s head?
“Really, we can pay, you know.” Nicole said.
“Hush, this is insurance that I’ll meet you again, gotta pay me back sometime, Nicoletta.” He smiled and Nicole returned it gratefully as he shut the cab door. The moment the taxi starting moving, she realized and turned to look out the back of the car.
He was gone.

“Mike, what are you doing here? Last time I saw you was on the last day of class. And why did you act as Eric?” Nicole demanded to know.
“I thought that guy was harassing you, so I acted like I was Eric. The boyfriend role scares them all. After that, I was just shocked you told a stranger that you love the playe- Eric, I mean. But it’s okay, he loves you back. That’s why I was there in the first place, because Eric called me to look for you, since none of his other friends know how you look.”
“Wow. Well he thought I liked you the first day he saw you in my class. It’s funny he called you.” Nicole said.
