We went and cooked dinner, and after we finished eating, I spoke as we were washing and drying dishes.
So, how does this thing work? Being mates, I mean?" I said, as I grabbed a towel, and started drying.
Well, as you know, it's what happens between two people, who were meant to be together. It's usually between two werewolves, but in some cases, it can happen between a human, and a wolf. Like you and me. And in some rare cases, between two humans. But more often, someone goes there whole life without ever finding their mate. Some of the lucky ones find them in their teenage years, and settle down for life."
"So, what happens if they didn't find their mate?" I asked, putting away the dishes.
"Well, they would either just not have anyone in their life, or find someone who they feel good with, and who loves them, and settle down. If they do find their mate, then they just break it off. Seems harsh, but the bond connecting mates when they find each other is so strong, they will do anything to have them." He explained. I nodded slowly
"Okay, so that clears it up somewhat." I told him while I washed a plate.
"There's three stages to mating also. I'll give you the short version. Stage one is where you discover your mate. We did that.
"Stage two is the first kiss. We did that too. It involves the feeling that the two people are meant to be together. The kiss and feelings usually happens on the wolf's eighteenth birthday, and it comes with heightened senses. On the wolf's birthday, every sense is heightened. The smell, sight, touch, hearing, and taste. That's why on my birthday, I was so emotional. You saw what happened, I didn't have total control, and my eyes looked different.
"Only the person's mate can feel the heat coming off the wolf, and see the feeling in their eyes. That probably happened to you.
"It's also the stage where there's a feeling of...sexual desire." He muttered uncomfortable, and I blushed, remembering that night.
"Luckily, we didn't get to stage three that night. If we did, then everything would have been much more complicated."
"Why would it be complicated, and what is stage three?" I asked him. He blushed and looked down.
"Well, it's you know...sex." He told me, and I flushed. He glanced at me, and I smiled.
"Why would it be more complicated if it happened that night, and not later?" I asked him.
"Well, you know how the senses are heightened, and the wolf is more in control than the human side?" He asked me, and I nodded.
"Well, my wolf would have pretty much taken over my body, and he would have been, how do I put it...less than gentle. He would have bit you, to show that you are mine, and no one else is allowed to touch you. It would have hurt a lot more, because I couldn't have made him gentler. you probably would have gotten a scar, and it wouldn't look pretty. That's the simplified version," He finished. I nodded understandingly.
"Okay, so I get that."
"My parents are werewolves too. We left because the pack leader, the Alpha, was not very nice to his pack. He didn't naturally command respect, he made it by threatening. Most of the pack was afraid of him, so they didn't do anything to stop him, but my family and me were brave enough to run away. We left when I was six, and we had been on the move, until I was in grade six, which was when I met you.
"My parents instantly knew that you were my mate, and even though I wasn't as aware of it as they were, I felt something towards you that I later found out was my natural mate feelings for you. My parents told me all about mates when I was in grade nine, and that was when I realized that you were my mate, and I've been watching over you ever since, waiting for the right time to tell you. I only hoped you would accept me and I'm glad you did, finally." He walked up to me, and gave me a hug. We stood there for a few minutes, when it was ruined by my parents.
"Oh, hey guys. What's happening?" My mom asked us, as we pulled away from each other. I was blushing a little, but my mom looked happy. My dad looked a little protective.
"Well, mom, dad. I have something to tell you. Me and Josh, well...we're dating." My dad groaned, and reached into his pocket, and pulled out a twenty. He slapped it into my mom's outstretched hand. I looked back and forth between them
"What was that about?" I asked them. They shrugged.
"Well, we kind of had a bet. I thought that you guys would eventually get together, and your dad thought that you guys would just stay friends. Ha, you were wrong!" She shouted gleefully at my dad. I rolled my eyes. They are so immature.
Anyways...me and him are going over to his house for a bit. See you later," I pulled Josh outside, and headed over to his house.
"What are you doing?" he asked me. I pulled him to a stop.
"Well, I don't know about you, but I don't want to be stuck in the same room with my nosy parents, that would want to know everything about us." I said, still pulling him along. He laughed.
"You're right. I don't." I continued pulling him to his house.
~~~
"We need to know what's going on with them, but we can't very well just barge into where they are, and ask them nicely, what they're doing here!" I heard his mom Victoria shout.
"Uh, mom, what's going on?" Josh interrupted.
"Well, we heard that Kain and Trevor and Ashton were here, along with the rest of the pack, and were seen on the outskirts of the forest..." she trailed off, noticing me.
Josh waved his hand at me.
"Don't worry. Sam knows about us, and that me and her are mates."
"Finally, I was waiting for her to know." His mom blew out a heavy breath, and his dad Jerry smiled, and slapped Josh on the back.
"Good job son." He said.
"Anyway, what were you guys discussing?" Josh said, throwing an arm around my shoulders.
"Well, we were just discussing what we were going to tell the Alpha, about the other pack." She told us.
"Wait, what? I thought they said you didn't have a pack!?" I asked Josh. His parents looked confused.
"Who said what?" They asked me.
"Well, we were kind of 'visited' by Kain and Trevor and Ashton. They said something along the lines of, "Can't escape the wrath of the Alpha, or something like that," Josh said, waving a hand to dismiss it.
"So they saw Sam with you? Do they know she's your mate?" His dad asked worriedly. Josh nodded, and then understanding dawned across his features.
"Crap, I know what you're getting at. That means that we will have to keep and eye on her at all times. She can even sleep here. I can get someone to watch her parents. We can tell the Alpha about this tomorrow."
"Again, I thought you guys didn't have a pack, so how could you have an Alpha?" I asked, frustrated.
"Well, we don't not have a pack. We just didn't want Trevor and them knowing we had a pack, because then they would target our pack, and it would be messy if they started to attack them. Because we left, we broke an agreement on never switching packs, and it stated that if a wolf family left the pack, they would be hunted down, and if they didn't rejoin the pack...killed." I shivered when Josh's dad said that. I couldn't imagine Josh dying.
"So, in order to protect me, since I'm Josh's mate, and they could kidnap me, and use me against you, me and my family will have to be watched and protected?" I summarized.
"Yeah, pretty much." Josh said, kissing my forehead lightly.
"Okay. Let's do this." I rubbed my hands together, smiling. I'm moving in with my mate. YES! So exciting!
I'll be honest, I didn't really like this chapter. I found it sounded a little rushed, but whatever. Check out my new Halloween story please! :)
