"He seems sincere, and if Rivers will have him then I don't see a problem," argued Gail, while Sam suggested they throw me off the balcony.
"Me neither, brother. We promised we would protect them, all of them," agreed Phoenix.
"I just don't like the way he-"
"The way he looks at me?" interrupted Gail, "Probably 'cus I'm floating! Oh, and my hair is green!" She wrapped her arms around him, "Were you actually jealous?"
"Maybe," he said, smiling.
"Rivers, show him to your room and introduce him to your roommates," ordered Phoenix, "I must go find Alexi now," she turned to me, "Welcome, Isaac."Rivers beamed and led me upstairs to the third floor. We walked along the corridor while kids stared at us through open doors. I stopped at one room where a girl sat cross legged on a carpet covered in hieroglyphics. Her eyes were open and glowing white, "That's Lotus, she's from Egypt. She can read the future."
"Seriously?!"
"Yep," We carried on walking till we got to a white sterile room with two girls braiding each other's hair. They had dark tanned skin, white hair and green eyes. One was about eight and the other my age. The one my age looked me up and down before writing down a bunch of stuff and muttering under her breath, "Exactly five foot nine, nine stone, brown hair, green eyes, bit of an overbite, marks on the neck -probably from Sam." The other walked straight over and pressed her hands on my neck. I tried to back away but her hands sent waves of heat up my neck before releasing. No respect for personal space,"Mimi here has healing powers and Kate has a knack for measurements," explained Rivers.
"Cool."Once we were done with Kate and Mimi -who turned out to be the house doctors- we headed off down the corridor again. Every so often Rivers stopped and introduced me to someone. We met the girl with four legs - Antoinette- and the girl with wings - Heloise. They were both from Paris but moved to England when they're parents abandoned them at a freak show. We passed the indestructible room of a boy called T.N.T (his actual name was Taylor Nathan Trueman) who could blow stuff up with a click of his fingers. Another with the 'Opposite Twins' ,as everyone called them, who did the opposite of each other. Which was a shame because one was forced to talk and walk backwards all the time. Rivers informed that it was natural for her and she liked it. They were called Hannah and Immi.
Our room was at the very end, overlooking the garden. It was split into five sections, each decorated differently. The one nearest the door was like a beachside cabin, decorated with shells and a surfboard against the wall. The next one was a typical teenage bedroom with sound system and bookshelf, all in red. The next was completely blank -probably mine. On the opposite side was another blank bunk. Next to that was a pretty pink heaven. I then realized this room might have girls in it as well. At the very end was the most disturbing area. Everything was green and black and on the walls horrifying messages were carved in to the wall. On read 'you filthy killer' another 'deserve to die a thousand deaths'.
"Who wrote the messages?" I asked, pointing to the wall.
"Benny did it. She likes to abuse herself," came a rich American voice. Six girls walked in, all completely identical. Five of them started cleaning the pink section while the other lay on her bed and brushed her long black hair. She clicked her fingers and the other girls turned to balls of light and disappeared into her chest.
"Who's Benny?"
"Me," She had short, dark brown hair and dark blue eyes. Her hands were in those medieval shackles that cover the entire hand, like metal mittens. Skillfully, she picked up a book with them and sat on her bed, reading. Then she looked and and said plainly, "I'm a monster," before continuing reading.
"No you're not. If I hear you say that again I'm washing your mouth out with pool water," called Rivers from across the room.
"So, what can you guys do?" I asked, trying to make conversation. Instead they stared at me coldlyRivers, probably sensing things weren't going well, walked over and pulled me outside, "I think I should tell you about our fellow roommates before you get decapitated by them. They are extremely defensive of their past. Gemma -our pink American friend- was deported from America after she hung seven of her ex-boyfriends at once for dumping her. She was in juvie' for a while but her duplicates kept breaking her out so she came here. Product of a cloning project gone wrong. Benny, well Benny was pretty normal. She was a biological warfare experiment gone wrong. Was able create and give diseases with her hands. Gave the whole lab cholera and ran away-"
"Is that why you put her in the shackles?"
"God, no. She put herself in the shackles after she accidentally killed someone on the spot; they touched her hands while they were glowing, a pure dose of the disease. They didn't stand a chance. Benny was mortified."
"What about you?"
"My dad wanted to create soldiers that could control the waters, he was going to sell them to the navy. I was his first, and last subject. They took us in their submarine to see if I really could really control water. I swam away and found Benny," I felt strange; knowing so much about them, without really knowing them at all.We walked back into the room, and found one of the blank bunks completely transformed; the walls had been painted blue -my favorite color, there was a mattress nailed to the ceiling, and there was a huge bookshelf. About ten Gemmas were there -most covered in paint- cleaning. Gemma herself was bossing them around and reapplying her neon pink lipstick, "Ta da! What do y'all think?"
"It's awesome! I love blue!"
"Not the room, silly, my lips! What do y'all think of my lips?"
"Uhh... They're okay I suppos-" Suddenly a shrill school bell sounded and everyone sighed in unison.
"Class time guys, come on!" called Jonny, poking his head out the door.
"Oh god, we're gonna be late! Come on!" As though forgetting I was there, they all ran out, grabbing school bags from their sections. All alone, I wandered down the corridor looking for the others. Kids bustled around, making it impossible to find anyone. Great; I'd only had one friend and already lost them. I kept looking until I bumped into someone, "HEY! LOOK WHERE YA GOIN'!" It was a girl, about ten, looking up at me angrily. She had flaming red hair in two pig tails, big blue eyes and ,by the look of it, was wearing a retainer, "Wait- aren't you that superhero gone rogue?" She reminded me of my aunt Gloria; loud and obnoxious. But she seemed a bit less (only a bit, mind) obnoxious.
"Yeah, I'm Isaac."
"Cool, I'm Sky. What lesson you got now?"
"I don't know, my roommates disappeared when the bell went."
"You could come with me, Day wouldn't mind. And I'd rather sit next to you than TNT; he blew my homework up!" Having nothing better to do, I followed her down to the first floor and into the classroom.
