Rhiannon

"For the hundredth time, Rhiannon, the letter simply means that you're a shoe in. they wouldn't invite you to the luncheon if they weren't going to accept you." My mom says, coming to a stop at the student drop off.

"Are you absolutely sure?" I ask.

She groans.

I've been harassing her nonstop since I got the letter from Augusta. She's explained to me already that the letter is an extra advantage students receive before getting the acceptance letter. Apparently Augusta doesn't just want to go by grades and extracurricular activities, they want to see you in person to see if your personality meets their principles. Mom said this is something new they recently started to meet and greet their future students.

That didn't sound really reassuring to me. I'm worried that once I get to the luncheon and meet all the who's who at Augusta I'll screw everything up and my chances of getting accepted will be ruined. Another thing that can happen is, everything goes well but they decide that my personality doesn't meet their school profile. So when you really think about it, the letter doesn't mean much because my fate is still in the air.

"Don't worry, sweetie." Mom exhales. "I'm going to be there with you."

"You promise?"

"Of course." She flashes me her winning smile. "Nothing will keep me from being your plus one."

I relax a little. I know with my mom there whatever nightmare awaits me at that luncheon won't be so bad. She's a former student. She graduated from Augusta summa cum laude. That must mean something, right? No, actually that makes her one of the greats. She's a single mother, working hard in a male dominated field, doing all of it without anyone's help. Now that I think about it, she should be honored at this damn luncheon.

"Now go to school already." She goads. "You're worrying me to death, Rhi."

"Fine." I stretch over to her side, wrapping my arms around her to give her a hug.

"Go learn a thing or two." She says once we're done hugging. "And make up with your friends because I'm not going to be able to drop you off every morning."

"Ha!" I snort. The way things are right now, I don't think I'm ever going to make up with Kylie and Clara. "How about you get me a car?" I say once I've stepped out.

"You know the deal." She laughs. "You get a car when you graduate."

"Whatever." I mumble.

"Love you." She calls out as she drives away.

"Whatever." I mumble again.

Graduation isn't until another 7 months. Seven months left of this hell hole called high school. If I don't make up with my friends by then, I'll be taking the bus to school. I refuse to ask Ethan for a ride...correction, I refuse to ask Ethan for anything anymore. I have completely come to terms with our relationship/ situationship. It is strictly platonic between him and I. I will not bring him down in the destruction path that I am now calling "Getting over Brandon." So the best thing to do right now, is to focus on me, focus on school and let him focus on himself.

He doesn't need me.

He doesn't me for the girlfriend experience. He doesn't need me to give him any tips on how to get girls. I'm sure he and Kylie hit it off at their little concert date. I'm sure they've already made out, had sex and have a million trillion fucking little beautiful nerdy babies. I'm not bitter. I'm moving on so why shouldn't he move on too.
