CHAPTER THIRTY-SEVEN

I can feel my heart beating, thundering like a racehorse down the track. Tha-thump. Tha-thump. My pulse races with every foot we fly closer to Magneto and White Queen, both poised to strike a final blow to Carol Danvers, lying on the ground. I guess that's why they call them ribcages; our hearts are like beasts.

"Step away from her!" I shout, coming to a stop a few yards away from the evil duo, raising each of my palms towards them. Lorna halts behind me, pulling her hands in an upward motion, metalic debris following her every move.

Magneto turns around, looking mildly annoyed. White Queen just smirks. "This is quite entertaining. My daughter and my future daughter in law have come to stop me."

"Quaint," White Queen says, raising her hands to press against her temples. With her closing eyes, she shoots out a wave of telepathic energy, nearly knocking both Lorna and I out of the starburst colored sky. "I haven't given you enough credit, Glorious. You're stronger than you let on."

"You have no idea." I press my palms forward, letting an array of cosmic blasts rain down on the duo as Carol hovers up to us, weakened by the fighting. "You alright, Colonel Danvers?"

She nods, holding her arm in her hand. "I'll manage, Glorious. This all the help you brought?"

I nod, hopes of defeating the two Brotherhood leaders fading by the second. "We're low on woman-power right now."

"Woman-power," Carol smirks, cracking her knuckles, her left arm weakened by the gash on her bicep. "I like the sound of that."

"You're not the only one who has woman-power," Emma Frost, White Queen, growls, throwing her hands in front of her, causing her body to turn to diamond. "Come and get me, Lorna. We have a score to settle."

I nod to Lorna, whispering a quick, "Watch your back," as she darts towards White Queen, lashing out at her in a brawl. This leaves Carol and I to take on Magneto. "We can stop this right now, Erik," I shout to him. "We don't have to fight. We can work something out."

Erik shakes his head, raising his arms slowly in our direction. "I have lived too long on this Earth to believe lies from those who stand with the enemy. We are too different to be accepted. I cannot fathom how you have not come to the same conclusion yourself, Glorious. Pietro would only marry a woman of intelligence, a mind as sharp as his own."

"I look past boundaries that people set up," I reply. "I don't care that I am a mutant and they are human. I don't care about gender, race, sexuality, age, religion, species, or anything else. It's a wise mind who looks past those blocks and says, 'No, I don't care that we're different. I accept you just the way you are.' We can coexist with the humans! Why can't you see that?"

"Coexisting is just a temporary solution!" Erik shouts, hovering above the ground with rage plastered all over his face. "The humans are used to being at the top of the food chain. They get too nervous when someone better than them comes along."
