The family. I have addressed the family on previous chapters, but let's make a chapter dedicated to talking about your OC's family.
We'll start off with siblings. It's okay for your character to have siblings, BUT PLEASE TRY AND MAKE IT REALISTIC. I've had enough of abusive older siblings. I KNOW that it may be a little more creative than abusive parents, BUT STILL. ABUSE IS OVERUSED. It's alright for them to have a depressed sibling, or something like that. I've done that once or something, I don't really know. I HAVE HAD ENOUGH OF SIBLINGS THAT TRY AND KILL THEM. SIBLINGS THAT BULLY THEM. So on and so forth. There are so many siblings that try and kill the character, which is what forces them to kill their sibling, yadda yadda yadda. I think you get the point now.
Now for the parents. ENOUGH WITH ABUSIVE PARENTS. I know I've addressed abuse in a previous chapter, BUT STILL. I CAN'T EMPHASIZE IT ANY MORE! Abuse is ridiculously overused, I'M GETTING TIRED OF IT. I have used it more than once, on some older OCs. But PLEASE. STAHP.
Okay. Well, I know that there have been things like abusive uncles and other family members. I GUESS it's less terrible if the family member has a GOOD reason to abide your character.
Horrible Reason: Just because
Bad Reason: They have bad grades
Okay Reason: Their parents are cannibals? (Haven't seen that one yet)
Good Reason: They were an accident
Great-ish Reason: They previously killed/harmed horribly their sibling or a close relative, and they're parents are now furious and abuse them
STILL JUST MY OPINION.
Well, I've also seen way too many characters who are orphaned, or live in the forest, or have drunken or drug addict parents, which its just overused. There are some things that ARE ACTUALLY PRETTY GOOD but just get way too overused and it thus becomes a Mary-Sue trait.
I HOPE YIU UNDERSTAND AND CAN MAKE YOUR OC HAVE A FAMILY THAT MAKES SENSE.
