Chapter 5 - Gaito's Hissatsu Monster

Hibiki's Pov

I was walking around the card shop then I saw Gao and his friends. "What? You and Bal cancelled your Buddy registration?" Baku asked. "He's so dramatic, making such a fuss over a slice of pizza!" Gao said. "The WBC World Buddy Cup regional preliminaries are about to begin!" Kuguru said. "How are you going to fight without a Buddy?" Baku asked. "Shimatta! (Oh no!) E-Even if I don't have Bal with me, I'll become the Buddy Champion...hahaha.." Gao sweatdropped while fake laughing. "No way." "What's your problem, Noboru?" "You were only able to beat Tasuku-senpai thanks to that shrimp dragon. There's no way you can win without that ace up your sleeve." Noboru said. "Hey, you never know unless you try!" Gao yelled. "You wanna try me, then?" Noboru asked while holding up his core deck case.

"Whoa! The next fight is Mikado Gao versus Kodo Noboru!"

Gao's life point dropped down to zero. "He nailed it! In just two turns, Kodo Noboru has won an overwhelming victory!" Gao's mouth was wide open while his whole entire body turned white. "Mikado Gao is so weak! Without his Buddy, he's got nothing going for him!" "A-A-Arigatogousai mashita... (Th-Thank you very much...) Gao stuttered as he bowed. "Pff haha! Katta! Gao no kattaze! (I won! I beat Gao!)" Noboru said while putting up a peace sign. "That was an instant knock-out." Baku said. "Gao, that was too weak." Kuguru said. "Mudada... (Futile)" I mumbled as I left.

- The next day -

"This is terrible!" Kuguru said. "The junior high students are doing what?" "They're card-hunting, with younger students as their targets!" Kuguru said. "Ikko! (Let's go!)" Gao said. "Yeah!" Baku agreed. "So it's happening again..." I thought as I followed them.

- Time Skip -

I happened to arrive first. Then I heard a voice so I jumped on one of the trees nearby and eavesdropped them. "Ore no katsu da, yaksoku dori moratte ikuzo, omae tachi wa kono kado wo fusawashikunai. Ikuzo Abygale. (I win. As promised, I'll be taking these. You aren't worthy of these cards. We're leaving, Abygale)." It was the same boy that I saw 2 days ago which had purple hair. "Hey, are you okay?" Baku asked one of the junior high student that was on the floor. "Stop right there!" Gao demanded. "Why would you do such a thing?" Baku asked. "Taking people's cards... you're a disgrace to all Buddyfighters! I, Mikado Gao, the Mighty Sun Fighter, will be your opponent!" Gao said. "How are you going to fight me? You're a Buddyfighter whose Buddy ran away from him." The boy said. "How did you know that?" Gao asked. "He told us." The boy's buddy said as he pointed. Then I saw a little dragon bouncing on a ball with an eye patch. "What?!" "B-Bal-chan." "Bal! Where have you been?" Gao asked. "Let me introduce you to our new comrade... Black Bal Dragon." "Little Bal has gone bad!" Kuguru said. "But no matter how you look at it... He looked like a trained sea lion!" Baku said. Gao walked towards Bal. "Bal! I was worried! I looked for you everywhere! And now, on top of not coming home, you've turned to a life of crime! I thought you were better than this!" Gao scolded. "This has nothing to do with Gao, bal. Bal quit being Gao's Buddy, bal! So Bal won't listen to what Gao says anymore, bal!" "Bal..." "That's how it is." "We're leaving, Abygale." The boy said as he left with his Buddy. "W-Wait, bal! Bal is leaving too, bal!" Bal said while he bounce as he followed them. I sighed "He doesn't understand does he?" I thought as I jumped back down without being noticed.

- At school -

I was on the escalator and as I stepped out of the escalator, I saw Gao standing right in front, looks like he's waiting for someone. Then there the boy with purple hair arrived. "I've been waiting for you." Gao said. "What do you want?" "Not you. I have something to say to Bal." "Bal has nothing to say, bal." Bal said. "Bal! I'm sorry!" Gao apologized as he bowed. Bal's eyes widened. "I'm the worst. I forgot a promise I made with my Buddy. That's why right now, I'm going to keep the promise I made you, Bal." Gao said. Then there was a man bringing a cart full of boxes of pizzas. "Wh-What's that?" "Is that..." "I got an advance on next month's allowance, and ordered 40 mixed-topping pizzas! Just as I promised, let's share this together! Half and half!" Gao said as Bal's eyes started to form tears. "If we share things together, we'll enjoy them twice as much! That's true for these pizzas, and for our dreams becoming Buddy Champions! Let's share them together, you and me!" Gao said then he pulled out his arms towards Bal. "G-Gao.." Gao just smiled. "Gao!" Bal jumped onto Gao as Gao fell onto the ground. "Whoa!" "Of course, bal! Bal loves Gao, bal!" Bal started licking Gao in the face. "H-Hey, cut that out!" "Bal-chan." "He just lured him with food." Noboru said. "No. Gao's passionate speech moved Bal's heart!" Baku said. "Kudaran (This is stupid)." The boy muttered. "Wait! Why are you gambling on Buddyfights and taking people's cards?" Gao asked. "If you insist on learning why... Try to defeat me!" He said as he hold out his core deck case.
