"Never believe that a few caring people can't change the world. For, indeed, that's all who ever have."

-Margaret Mead

The drive to the country for hours is breathtaking. Beth never thought she'd loved the woods that stood mightily and the wind blowing her hair in the light summer atmosphere surrounding the moving car she's in. Placing her earphones on her ears, she slumped on the seat while listening to her favorite songs.

One week had passed since her dad told them that they're leaving the city. Beth spent her time with her friends, cherishing the little precious moments that will never happen again.

School was over and she did everything that could not bored her. She spent most days outdoors, riding her bike and reminiscing every stores, parks, and places  that she'll miss the most. She went on the mall with her friends and even went to the movies.

She have to say goodbye to her beloved city.

She'll miss that.

Her thoughts snapped back on reality. After hours of travelling, she saw the house. Her eyes widened. Oh, boy, it was huge! It feels nothing alike from their old home. A two-story house  was designed concretely which she guaranteed will make the house warm during winter. It has a balcony and a spacious backyard, and a lot of trees surrounding it.

"Dad? This is our new house?" James asked eagerly, looking out the other side of the window.

"Yes, James. It is our new home,"  her dad corrected him.

"Cool."

She can feel James looking at her. She looked at him.

"What?" She snapped.

"Chill, rude woman," he joked. "You're so quiet. Is there something wrong?"

Beth shook her head and the car stopped in front of the wide wooden door. Phillip went out the car and opened the door for them. She remembered her dad telling them that he would be hiring a new driver to drive him to work and she and her brother to school. Phillip was introduced a couple days before the trip and she could tell that he can be trusted.

Phillip smiled at her when she mumbled her thanks after she went out the car. She stared at the huge house and followed her dad enter the door.

"Mr. Lewis! Welcome," a middle-aged woman welcomed them inside as James closed the door. Phillip placed their luggage and bags next to them and vanished to the other side of the door.

"Mrs. Morgan. It's nice to see you," her dad said. "Liza, James, I would like you to meet Mrs. Morgan. She'll help around the house. She'll attend your needs."

"Oh, no need for the formalities," Mrs. Morgan cried. "Call me Sally."

"Hi," we both said, shyly.

As Sally and her dad began talking about some stuff, she decided to look around the pictures hanging around the house. Why are there pictures? She thought. Her dad must have prepared everything for them to settle down.

A portrait caught her eye. A picture of a good looking young man in a black and white filter which stood out among the other portraits. His eyes seemed familiar. Those old eyes are clouded with different emotions she couldn't recognize yet it seemed like she had seen those before. She turned around to find Sally asking her a question.

"Sorry, Sally. I didn't quite catch that," she apologized.

"No harm done, Elizabeth," she replied kindly. "Do you want me to show you to your room and help you with your things?" Sally offered.

"Yes, please."

"What about you, James?" the woman turned to him. He reluctantly shook his head.

"Oh, no. I'm good," he assured her. "I might as well take a tour around the house while finding my room. I think I can manage."

Beth smiled. Her brother is so giddy that he wants his alone time. He liked to act smart like he could handle Voldemort even though he's asleep.

Spongebob smartpants.

"Just don't get lost, brother," Beth joked.

"I won't, grumpy lady," he grinned.

He walked up the stairs and disappeared.

"Where's dad?" She couldn't help asking Sally.

"Oh, he said he wanted to rest for a while," she replied, picking up the bags scattered on the floor.

"Follow me. I'll show you to your room."

🌀

It was amazing. The pale rose wallpaper is mesmerizing, giving the room a hint of gentleness. The balcony  is hers. She looked around and found a dresser, a door leading to the bathroom, an empty shelf and a queen-sized bed. She went to her bed and ran her fingers on the soft fabric covering the springy mattress. She noticed the wide window where light was escaping and there was a window seat.

"I loved it, Sally!" Beth exclaimed.

"I decorated it, Elizabeth," she gladly replied. "I knew you'll like it."

"Please, Sally," she began. "Call me Beth and thank you for this."

The petite woman smiled showing her pearly whites. Her golden brown hair was neatly tucked into a clean bun and she wore a black uniform with matching shoes. She's pretty elegant in the way she moves.

"You're welcome, Beth."

🌀

Later that night, after finishing her dinner and placing her things in the perfect spot, she tucked herself under the covers. She thought that this might work out. She missed the city. The lights, the sound of cars passing by. She'll miss them but she couldn't miss the future she'll have here.
