Beth woke up when she felt the sun rays tickling her face from the open window. She sat up and roamed her eyes around the room.
Her first night wasn't bad at all but she got scared when she put the lights out. After mentally debating, she decided to leave the lamp open to assure her that nothings gonna happen.
She survived.
The house is huge and she still haven't had the chance to tour around it. She decided to make the day more productive and decided to get out bed.
Slipping into her white flip flops, she went to the bathroom and took a shower. After getting dressed in one of her knee-length dark brown dress and flat shoes, she went downstairs to get some breakfast.
On the way downstairs, she saw James heading to the kitchen.
"Hey, brother," she greeted him from behind.
He was startled and turned to face her.
"Do not ever scare me like that," he said, eyes glistening.
"I wasn't scaring you, James," she reasoned, a small smile forming in her lips. "I am just greeting you."
"Yeah, right," he said, sarcastically. "There must be clowns here."
Ever since James had seen a horror movie featuring clowns, he developed some kind of phobia towards them. He's 16 and Beth finds it really funny.
"Come on, scared-y cat," she replied. "I'm starving."
🌀
Breakfast is a delight. There laid waffles and jam, bacon, scrambled eggs, and a pitcher of orange juice. James immediately sat down in one of the tall wooden chairs and began sniffing everything.
Plates are already prepared in front of them. She grabbed her fork and began placing eggs in front of her.
Her dad went out of the room, all dressed in his suit and tie, his hair styled with some gel. His shoes was well-polished and he's carrying a suitcase.
"Hey, dad," she greeted him.
"Morning, Liza," he replied. "Morning, James."
"Dad, getting to work?" James asked. "It's been our second day here. Why so soon?" He whined.
"My appointment with the boss is today. I wouldn't want to disappoint him," he said, patiently. "I hope you all understand.
Beth nod her head and took a bite of the waffle. Hmmm... delicious. She had to compliment Sally later.
🌀
Later that afternoon after lunch, she decided to take a tour around the house. Even though she wanted to stay all day in her room, she has to go out and discover the new house, too.
After discovering a huge library, the guest room, her father's room, and a washroom, she went to James' room. It was covered with a blue-patterned wallpaper and James was there lying on his bed, throwing a ball up to the ceiling. She knocked on the door and she entered after he motioned her to come in. They chatted for a while before he complained that he was sleepy. Beth left him alone and decided to go to the dining room.
There was nothing new but she observed the pale-colored wallpaper and the colorful stained glass, which stood out and gave the room a hint of elegance. In the corner she saw a white, open door. She walked in and there she saw Sally, her back turned from her and was busy washing some dishes.
"Hey, Sally," she finally said.
"Oh, hi, Beth!" Sally replied, eagerly. She turned to face her and a smile formed in her lips.
"Your cooking skills are awesome," she cooed. "Those meals are the best meals I've tasted, Sally."
"Aw, thanks, Beth," Sally smiled and turned to continue washing the plates. "Get used to it," she laughed.
Beth smiled and saw a wooden door open wide near the drying machine. She didn't know where it lead to so she decided to ask Sally.
"I was wondering, where does that door lead?"
"To the backyard, sweetie," answering her question, glancing at her.
"Thanks."
She went to the door and left the kitchen. She found herself stepping into a green grass, on a wide space surrounded by trees.
The wind blew her hair as she moved away from the house. The sun is not too hot today, enough heat radiating her body. She found big, tall trees and birds flying up in the sky. She felt so free.
She wondered what the nature has to offer.
She continued to walk towards the trees. She was getting more further away from the house so she gave up the idea. She walk back to the house but it is still not late in the afternoon. So, she went out to get her bike out of the garage, and began heading to the same direction she went a while ago.
A dirt road path lead to a wide hill area. After cycling for minutes she found herself observing something not far from her. Standing in the middle of the spacious land is a lone sycamore tree, with strong branches and wide, edgy leaves.
She got out of her bike a she studied its trunk, some letters bleeding its bark, yet she couldn't understand what it says. She shook the thought off and she just focused on appreciating the beautiful scenery in front of her.
She stayed there for a while before heading back. It's getting pretty late and she didn't want anyone to worry. She didn't liked the idea of his dad and James having a search party from the local police or anything. Who knows.
On her way home, she was happy that she found her own special place. It will be a fine summer. Everything is going to on her way and it will make her forget the stinging longing and pain of leaving home.
