Now,
I'm not calling myself patriotic,
I'm not filled with
Overwhelming pride at what we have done.
Blood stains our flag in stripes,
And when you hoist that flag
To its breezy loft atop a silvery pole
I look up at it and think:
The day I fly a flag of Red, White, and Blue,
I fly the flags of
America, England, France, Norway, Thailand,
And legions more across the globe.
I look up at it and ask:
Why can't we all be
Independent of separation?
