Extra Credit Assignment

Jordan's POV
"Bye sweetie I love you! Remember what I said!" I hear my mom shout after me as I pull my hoodie over my head. I had my headphones in that way I wouldn't hear the mocking voices of my classmates. I hated it here and I just couldn't wait to get out. I'm glad this is my last year in this prison. I sat in the back of my English class and got my notebook out. I saw the familiar face of my teacher. She smiled as she greeted the class and took roll. I sighed as I looked around the classroom. It was nothing but a room filled with stuck up spoiled brats who thought they owned the world. Another reason why I hated this place. I of course stuck out like a sore thumb. I wouldn't say my family was rich but we weren't poor either. We were somewhere in the middle. My father is a Lawyer so he travels a lot and my mother is a nurse and she works long hours. My older sister,Lacey, graduated last year so she's off at college so it's just me most of the time. I've gotten used to it though. It almost feels weird when both of my parents are home. Of course when they are they usually get into fights but they stay together for me. "Ms.Jones daydreaming again?" Mrs.Jefferson asks as I hear my classmates snort and make dumbass comments. "Sorry Mrs.Jefferson guess I didn't get enough sleep last night." I say snapping out of my thoughts. "Right well try to stay awake" she says I nodded. Most of my teachers knew about my situation so they were understanding when I fell asleep in their class or just wasn't paying attention. As soon as class ended I went and decided to talk to Mrs.Jefferson about my grade. "Look Mrs.Jefferson I know there's nothing I can do to change that D I had last quarter but is there something I can do to at least make sure I pass this class." I ask well more like begging. Getting my grades to go up and actually graduating is a huge deal for me. Especially if I want to go to the same University that Lacey is going to. Out of all the UCs she could've picked she choose UCLA. She had to graduate Top of her class to get accepted so I must do the same or get close. "Alright Jordan you know I don't do extra credit assignments because in college there is no such thing as extra credit but you do try really hard in this class so I am willing to make an exception." She says I smile as she looks through her things and hands me a yellow envelope. "All your directions are in that envelope. Good Luck Jordan!" I thanked her and went off to my next period. I am the most impatient person ever so while my history teacher was giving us a lecture on Jimmy Carter I opened the envelope and read the paper.
Dear Student,
Your assignment is to visit an inmate in prison everyday for the rest of the school. You are to write a five page essay about your experience with the inmate and even try to see if you are able to make a new friend. This will count as your final and is worth half of your grade. Your inmate has already been randomly chosen and all their info is on the next page.
I looked around to make sure no one was watching as I flipped to the next page. There was a picture of a women that looked to be kinda Hispanic. She had short black hair and brown eyes and you could just tell she was pissed. She looked pretty beat up too I wonder what her story was. I decided to read the info.

Damn it looks like she's been through hell. I've heard her name mentioned on the news back in 2009. She had hit one of her backup dancers and was checked into rehab. I thought it was just another pop star gone bad story. But I guess it wasn't. My sister was obsessed with her. We even went to one of her concerts and we had floor seats. From what I remember she Stayed Strong for her fans and that was awesome. I wonder what happened? Either way she's still a criminal and she can still hurt me. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't afraid.
