New Assignment

Jordan's POV
I woke up the next morning with a smile on my face. I got dressed and went downstairs only to be greeted by my empty house and a note from my mom. I didn't even bother to read what it said. I knew she had an early shift today. I fixed myself some breakfast then drove to hell. As soon as I parked I got a text from an unknown number.
Hey um I don't mean to freak you out or anything but please meet me by the pool before school starts if you truly do care about Demi.
I found that a little strange I mean the person could kill me but they knew Demi. I decided to take a leap of faith and trust whoever was sending me this. So I went by the pool and saw someone with a hoodie on. She was at least a few inches taller than me and had short blue hair. "Hey um are you the person who sent me the text?" I ask "That depends are you planning on hurting my sister?" She asks almost like she was angry. My eyes widened. "Your Demi's sister?" I ask she nods "Now what the hell are you doing visiting my sister everyday after school?!" She spat "Look I'm not planning to hurt her I swear. I was just given this assignment to visit her everyday after school for the rest of the year." I say calmly "Assignment my ass! Tell me the truth! No one is allowed to visit her not even her family so what makes you so god damn special!" She says getting in my face. "I'm not lying. I even have proof." I say as I look through my bag for the packet. I pull it out and hold it out for her to read it. "Whoa this looks legit I'll give you that." She says "That's cause it is Legit." I say "Alright so what class is this for? Criminal Justice?" She asks "No actually it's for English." I say her face scrunches up. "Weird. I'm Madison by the way or just Maddie." She says sticking her hand out. "Jordan." I say shaking her hand. "Sorry about almost beating you up. We cool?" She asks I nod "Of Course!" I say "Hey but look I do want to tell you something. If Demi has let her walls down for you please don't take that so lightly. If she trusts you her trust is something that is not given it's earned and if you break that trust it will take an entire lifetime to get it back. So be careful with her. She may act like a badass but the minute someone hurts her she's sobbing like a 3 year old." Maddie says almost in a warning tone. "Don't worry I wouldn't betray someone like that. What happened to her anyway?" I ask. "That's not my story to tell. She'll tell you when she's ready but I will tell you this. She did none of the things it says she did on the paper. She's completely innocent." She says I nod. "Alright well I gotta get to class. But I'll see you around." I say about to leave "hold on. Can you give her this for me? My parents won't let me mail it since the last time she screwed up they told her if she went back to her old ways or did something worse she would have no communication with me whatsoever." She explains handing me a letter. "I'll make sure she gets it." I say she gives me a small smile and turns away. "Hey wait um look if you ever need me to pass on a message to her or give her something well you know my number so just ask alright?" I say she nods with tears in her eyes. I pull her in for a hug and try to comfort her. "It's going to be okay. I promise" I say. Alright so it looks like I have a new assignment. Figure out how Demi ended up in jail. This was no longer about a grade anymore it was about making sure Demi got out of that jail cell and with her family.
After School.
I parked in the same spot in front of the jail went through the same routine with only one thought in my head. As soon as I was let in the visitation room I gave Demi a quick hug since they finally let her out of handcuffs to my request. "So what's up kid?" She says "Um a lot actually. You won't believe this but your sister actually talked to me at school." I say "Wait. Maddie?" She asks I nod her eyes fill with tears. "I haven't seen her in years. How is she? I miss her so god damn much!" She says tears running down her face. "She's good. She misses you a lot as well. She asked me to give you this." I say giving her the letter that Maddie had given to me earlier. She grabbed it and ripped it open. I gave her a few moments to read it and once she was done she held tightly to her chest. "Tell her I'll write her back soon." She says I nod. We sat in comfortable silence for a while until I decided to ask her the question that's been in my mind all day. "Um Demi can I ask you something?" I say "Yea sure kid." She says getting together "Okay..Well um Maddie mentioned something about whatever it said on your record wasn't true. If that is true then why are you in here?" I ask she sighs looking up at the clock then she runs a hand through her hair. "There's not enough time to explain. I wish we had more time so I could explain." She says I frowned but then I remembered that I could take her out of her. It was one of my privileges. "Demi I think there is I just need to talk to officer James." I say "What do you mean?" She asks "just hold on. Stay there." I say "like I'm really going anywhere?" She says I rolled my eyes as I opened the door to see Officer James. "Done already?" He asks I shook my head "Um I was wondering if I could take her out just like it says In my packet." I say "Alright but just remember she has to be back by 10" he says I nod "Thanks Officer James." I say "I'll be sure to tell everyone else so that way they won't think you're trying to break her out." He says I nodded as I went back in the visitation room. "Come on I wanna take you somewhere." I say "I can't remember. I'm a prisoner" she says "Don't worry about that! I used my charm and my special privileges to break you out until crew few." I say "What! Kid you're amazing!" She says hugging me. "I know now come on before he changes his mind!"  I say taking her by the hand and leaving in my car. As I drove back to my house I saw that there was no one in the driveway. Perfect!
"I'm sure my sister won't mind if you borrow some of her clothes. In fact I don't think she would ever wash them again." I say hearing her laugh. "Yea either that or frame them. Your sister was obsessed." She says looking at all the posters Lacey had around her room. "Oh believe me she still is! When I told her you were in jail she refused to believe me." I say "Wouldn't she already have known that I mean it was all over the news." Demi says "Nah she's too busy making out with her boyfriend." I say rolling my eyes. "You really don't like the guy do you?" She asks "I mean he was okay at first now he's just so full of himself. 'Oh look at me I'm on a full ride scholarship because I'm a good football player!' 'I can fail all my classes and they won't kick me out' blah blah blah." I say as I hear her laugh. "Alright I'm ready now will you tell me where we are going?" She asks. "Can't it's a secret." I say smiling "you know I hate secrets!" She whines "I know now come on" I say jumping off of my sister's bed and onto Demi's back. "Ugh! Seriously you could have broken my back!" She says "Stop being so dramatic. Now to my car!" I say I could practically feel her roll her eyes as she carried me all the way to my car. "Damn I give you mad props dude!" I say surprised. She wasn't even breaking a sweat. "Psh that's nothing! You should see the kind of workouts I used to do before I went on tour." She says "Alright I will one day" I say "You serious kid?" She asks "Yea! One of these days you and me are going to the gym to work out." I say "Alright then prepare to die on that day!" She says making me chuckle as I pulled out of the driveway. We drove around for a bit talking but that was just me stalling because I was waiting for the right time. Finally I figured she waited long enough so once we were getting close I told her to close her eyes. "Just warning you I know how to fight so you better not try anything kid." She says closing her eyes. "Hey who's the criminal here. Me or You?" I say "Ha Ha So Funny" she says as I shake my head. I parked the car and helped get out. "Alright now open" I say "Holy shit kid where are we?" She asks once she opens her eyes. "We are at me and my sister's cliff. We found this spot about 5 years ago when I was 12 and she was 14. We were riding our bikes and came across this place. This was our place to talk about anything or just scream if we needed to." I explain "Was?" She asks sitting next to me on the grass. "Well ever since she went off to college we haven't really been up here. Only her and I know about this place and now you. I thought this would be the perfect place to talk." I say "It sure is kid. You can basically can see over the town and that Sunset. It's just so...breathtaking." She says I nod. "So you still owe me that story" I say "Right well..."
