Ch. 28

Sage found that at the end of the day Dakota hadn't been at school. She figured that she had been hiding out in the library, but when she went to check she didn't find her. Instead of searching the entire school, she found herself walking in the direction of the school's parking lot, heading in the direction of Mila.

She found Mila amongst of group of students who she assumed were also wolves. Among the group had been Holland who had Mila wrapped in his arms as he sat on the trunk of his car laughing at something that was being said. She hadn't seen or spoken to Holland since the night she found out about wolves, and to be honest she felt horrible, because he didn't need to be singled out for saving her life.

Looking at Holland now with Mila in his arms, she couldn't really believe what she was seeing, although the rumors of what was developing between them were flying around like wild fire. Most people couldn't believe that Mila had gone after Holland just a few short months after ending things with his cousin. And knowing what she knew, she was one of the ones that couldn't believe how Mila and Holland would treat Camryn. But after witnessing what had just happened with Cam and Dakota, Sage wasn't so sure of what to make of things.

Taking a deep breath Sage's eyes landed on Sawyer who had been standing next to Bruno and Derek talking about god only knew.

It had been two months since she had said had spoken anything to him, and twice that long since she allowed herself to actually look at him, as if he was more than just a beast. Looking at him now and seeing him in dressed in a dark grey v-neck shirt, and his messy dark hair, Sage felt the need to run into his arms and to hug him tight. And instead of acting on her emotions and need, she braced herself, because she didn't really know what to expect from the group of kids, she now referred to as beast.

Taking a deep breath, and adjusting her single strap back that hung over her shoulders, Sage made her way over to the group, hoping to get some answers about Dakota.

Clearing her voice and stepping to them, she let her eyes drift over to Mila, and soften her eyes.

As she stood in front of them, she notice that they all seemed to grow quiet upon her approach.

"Hi." She choked out in a nervous voice.

"What do you want?" Yelena all but bit out, as she narrowed her eyes to Sage.

Luckily for Sage, Derek had always been kind, and as she watched him pull Yelena's small body into his arms, she was all but grateful.

Instead of paying Yelena any mind, Sage directed her attention to Mila, giving her a soft warm look. "Can we talk?" she asked in a soft voice, hoping that Mila wouldn't turn her down.

"Um, yeah." Mila said as she pushed herself off of Holland and turned her attention to Sawyer giving him a quizzical shrug. Following Sage lead, they stepped away from the group, and looked at each other with hesitation in their eyes. "What's going on Sage? What do you want to talk about?"

Sage looked Mila up and down nervously, and released a soft sigh. "Have you seen Dakota?" She asked in a stronger voice. "I've looked around the school, and haven't found her."

"And why would you be looking for Kota?"

Giving a slight shrug, Sage eyed Mila carefully before speaking. "I just wanted to make sure that she was alright."

"And why wouldn't she be alright?" Mila asked out of curiosity.

"Look, I just wanted to be there for her. I know that she's going through a hard time, and I just want to be there for her. She's my best friend, and I would never want to see her hurt. And I know I hurt her, but what Camryn did was completely uncalled for, and I just wanted to make sure that she was okay. So do you know where she is?"
