Ch.20

It had been a couple of weeks since Sawyer had just left Sage's place abruptly. After that he had missed the next couple of days and when he returned Sage could sense that something was off with him. But every time that she tried to ask him about it, he shut down and would play it off, so eventually after a while she just stopped asking. But after a couple of weeks of Sawyer acting strangely she couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong. After the first couple of days he missed, he'd come back and end up missing another couple of days, or an entire week. And during those days that he was gone, and missing school, Sage never heard from him.

Every time she tried to call him, his phone would go straight to voice mail and after leaving him so many voice mails, and not getting a return call back from him, Sage just stopped calling and leaving messages.

And after a couple weeks flew by, Sage had other things to worry about, like the fact that Dakota's birthday was in a couple of more days, and Kota still didn't have a clue of what she was going to do.

A brand new week had started and for the first time in a long time Sage felt as if things were actually normal, although every time she walked down the hall, she found herself thinking Sawyer, and when she did, she felt this hurtful pain deep inside her, making her want to be near him. But pushing the pain and the need to be with Sawyer away, Sage focused on getting information out of her best friend as they walked down the hall together, just the two of them.

"So do you have any plans on how you want to spend your birthday?" Sage asked Dakota as they made it to their lockers.

Dakota shook her head quickly not really wanting to let on to how she wanted to spend her birthday. In just five short days, she was turning eighteen, and she knew that in wolf terms that was the year that it was possible for her to find her soul mate, and that was something that she didn't want to do. She didn't want to spend her life with someone especially at a young age. She wanted to experience life, and to make something out of herself. She didn't want met the one and end up having his children. She didn't want to be tied down. And because of that she found herself wanting to do things differently for her eighteenth birthday.

Usually she'd just look at her birthdays as regular days, and would usually wound up studying or have her head stuck in a book.

            But not this year.

Every since Mila's birthday, it hit Dakota like a ton of bricks that her eighteenth birthday was like a deadline of sort. When Mila had been walking around thinking that she and Camryn would be mates after she turned eighteen and it didn't happen, it got Dakota thinking that now was the time that she needed to step out of shell and live a little. Mila had thought that on her eighteenth birthday that she'd find her mate, and when it came around, she didn't.

Dakota only took that as a sign that she should be living her life now, while it was just still hers alone. She didn't want to look up and realize that now her life was forever entangled with a possessive wolf, who didn't want to let her do anything.

She wanted to enjoy her freedom, and with only four days that was probably going to be her last, she wanted to do something  that was out of her comfort zone. And as she and Sage reached their lockers Dakota turned and looked her best friend in the eyes, with a small smile on her face.

" No not really." Dakota said making Sage look over to her with a questionable look on her face. "But I do know that I want to do things differently. You know I want to shake things up, and do something unexpected."
