"Do you know where Sophia lives?" I ask Jason as soon as we are both in the jeep.
"I have no clue," he laughs.
"She claims there is an emergency so we need to move quick. Her address is 982 S. Kert ave. got it?"
"What kind of emergency?" He grins and looks at me. I laugh because I know what he's getting at.
"Hey, it might actually be serious," I say still laughing.
"Ok, ok, I'm putting in the address in now," He taps his fingers on the navigation system in his car and the route finally shows up. "We are ready to go."
"Sounds fantastic," I reach to grab my phone from my bag and text Sophia that we are coming. I put my phone down at watch as Jason pulls out of the parking space and heads for the road. His hand reaches for the stereo and he turns up his indie music. The sounds are quite catchy and I find my feet tapping to the beat.
"Do you like this song?" He takes one hand from the steering wheel and pushes his hair back and my whole body seems to shake. He is gorgeous, the dark jeans match perfectly with his maroon v-neck. How did I even end up here. I reflect on what just happened. He asked me out, he might have the same feeling. I gain enough confidence and turn over to him. I stare at him for a few more seconds and he notices me and looks at me for a little then turns back to the road.
"Rachel?" He glances at me again.
"Oh, yeah, I like the beat," I smile to myself and look at the road before looking back at him as he starts to speak again.
"I have 2 tickets to go to there concert, care to come?" He is asking me out on another date, this must mean something.
"I have to ask you a question first," I hear myself say, but I don't know what I'm thinking.
"Go on."
"Do you like me?" I hear words again and I finally understand what I'm doing. My eyes open wider as I realise what I had just done. I turn back into my seat facing the road. There is silence in the car beside the music. Out of the corner of my eye I see Jason smile, lean over to me and kisses my cheek. My cheeks are rosey and so are his. He laughs.
"Of course I do, that's why I'm asking you to come to the concert with me," I twittle with my hands and I try to think of what to say. Do I kiss him back? No, just simply answer his question, see where that gets you.
"I would love to go to the concert," I slip a kiss onto his cheek. His ears go red along with cheeks. His teeth apear in a smile and the witness makes me smile too. How did I get this lucky? We sit in the car for another minute or two just smiling and indulging the moment.
"The concert is Friday," His golden eyes reach my boring brown eyes.
"Is this a date?" I ask him.
"Do you think this was a date?" He looks at the steering wheel, something is wrong. "Sorry I worded that wrong, yeah it's a date. I was going to play a joke, but nothing came to mind nothing came out and-"
"It's ok, I was just wondering," Now the silence is a bit weary not cute like it was before.
We sit in the car for a few more seconds and I see Sophia's house, we pull up in the driveway and park the car. I get out of the car and walk near the front porch. Sophia slams the door open and runs to me and hugs me.
"I can't find them," She looks at me, I.. I don't know what to say.
"Who have you called?"
"No one besides you, I was too freaked out to call anyone else, there not mine, I don't know how to treat this. They are ours," Her voice seems shaky and I can see she is crying now. I hug her tightly. I turn to Jason, he needs to drive us, he can help us find them. THe only problem is that I can't tell him what the problem is.
"Jason, do you mind driving us to the police office?" I turn to him and he has a questioning look on his face.
"I don't under-"
"Don't ask, please just drive us," I walk over to him and give him a begging look. He smirks but he still stays serious.
"Fine, just please explain to me what we are going to the police for." I can't tell him, do I trust him yet. Who can I trust at this point. Sophia lost my dogs. How? Anger now feels my body.
"Later," I murmur, I need to wait, I need to wait for the perfect moment.
