Brooke's POV

Instead of spending the day with Calum, he changed it so we would spend time together tonight. I kind of got stuck hanging out with the guys, minus my brother.

"Let's go to the beach, they said. It would be fun to surf, they said." I sarcastically say to whoever is listening at the moment.

"How were we supposed to know you suck at surfing?" Mikey replies.

"Maybe because I told you before we left," I roll my eyes with a scoff.

"Okay, you two." Ashton stops Mikey from making another comment.

"He did warn you about that wave though," Luke cuts in.

"Sorry, but I couldn't just stop obviously."

After a minute or two of silence, we all start laughing.

"It was pretty funny though," Ashton speaks up.

"Until my board hit me."

"Are you sure you didn't hit the board?" Another smart comment from Mikey, but I love him like a brother.

"You should have seen the look on your face," he points at Luke.

"Hey, I was really worried there for a few minutes." Luke tries to defend himself but only fails.

"You looked so..." Mikey didn't get to finish because the door swung open revealing an angry, but worried looking Calum. Our laughs immediately stop.

"Are you okay?" He comes over, sitting in the chair beside my hospital bed, and takes my hand in his.

"I'm fine. Just surfing isn't really my thing." I try to joke with him.

"Can I talk to you for a minute?" He looks over to Luke.

Ashton gets up as well, and follows them both outside to the hallway.

"I thought you were taking her out to have fun, not to land her back in the hospital." Calum exclaims at the both of them.

Even though the door is shut, Mikey and I can hear him clear as if the door wasn't there.

"We did take her out to have fun. It just stopped being fun at the end," Luke replies defensively.

"Ya maybe because she got her skull cracked open."

Mikey and I laugh quietly to ourselves as he flips through the television channels. As loud as Calum is, I am pretty sure this whole side of the hospital can hear their conversation.

"Look, it's not like we planned this out. Brooke got knocked off her board because of a rough wave. When she went under, her board came around and hit her in the head. Blame the ocean, not us." Ashton explains to Calum trying to calm him down.

It's quiet for a few minutes before Mikey speaks up from the chair beside me. "Calum might actually go out there and attempt to fight the ocean."

I let out a laugh, "It wouldn't surprise me. He is so protective over me."

"He loves you. What do you expect?" Mikey tells me what I already know.

"I know, but couldn't he tone it down just a little?"

"Never. He isn't the type of person to go into something lightly. He goes whole heartedly. That's why he is still here, trying to get you to fall in love with him all over again." Mikey explains, making my head nod knowingly.
