One week from today, out little friends will be starting their first time at school. As you can imagine, it is going to be.... interesting.
But today is just another free day.
That doesn't mean it's a normal day.
Yesterday was very eventful.
Crybaby had yet another flashback, Electra went on a rampage, Lana was spotted by the big bad wolf, and Troye held hands with Connor.
They had discussed it all on the way home from the carnival. Except Electra. She had been silent.
This morning, the children all decide to go back to the playground, and they find that there are few other kids there.
This makes Troye happy. He doesn't like the name calling and whispering that usually happens here.
Crybaby has a red lolly pop in her mouth.
Troye is hugging his doll to his chest and smiling with a glazed-eye daydreaming look.
Electra is swinging. The motion ruffles her wavy black hair. Sometimes she will steal her mothers hair dyes and bleach, but her mother won't notice until Electra has done the damage.
Lana is also swinging, sighing and holding a teddy that she won last night in her free hand.
They don't talk much today. They are all just thinking.
That is, until a loud voice interrupts them.
"Hey you. Doll boy." Yells an annoyed blonde girl. She has her hair in neat, curly pigtails.
"I need to have a talk with you."
"Wait! No! Don't! Come on, please. I told you already!"
Calls another desperate voice.
Troye's heart skips a beat, because it is Connor's voice.
Lana looks at Crybaby with wide eyes.
The girl continues despite the efforts of the little boy.
"I saw you with MY Connor yesterday.
You held hands and shared cotton candy. What is going on?"
She says, her face flushed. Her eyes watering.
"I thought he loved me."
Connors heart brakes a little at the last sentence.
Crybaby mumbles"Pacify her."
"It's just- we- it's nothing! We are only friends, I promise!" He says, standing in front of the blonde girl, putting his hands on her shoulders.
No. That's not true.
Troye thinks.
It can't be.
"It was just holding hands as friends." He says, trying to reassure her.
He wipes off her tears with his sweater.
Troye's hands squeeze around his doll to keep from calling out.
You are lying. That isn't true. We are more than friends.
Connor grabs the girls hand. "Let's go. We can have a play date."
The girl nods and gives a weak grin.
"I'm sorry Con. I just... Well I can't believe I thought that." She mumbles to him. She leans forward and gives him a kiss on the cheek.
Soon they disappear over the hill.
"No. That can't be right. He loves me. He missed me."
Troye said, his eyes filling with tears.
"No!"
He sobs before turning around and dashing off.
"Wait Troye! Come back!" Calls Crybaby.
"Poor Troye. Poor Connor. What are they going to do? Yesterday he was so happy." Electra mumbles. "I just want to save him from being numb. I don't want his heart broken more than it already is. I'm afraid he will shatter."
She goes on.
"Me too." Lana says. Her voice wavers.
"We- we need to leave. Now."
Says Crybaby, her face pale. Her eyes are wide. She is staring at the street.
"Why?" Lana says in a puzzled and concerned tone.
"Look! It's the ice cream truck!"
Says Electra.
"Run." Crybaby says.
"Please run." She repeats, grabbing the girls by the hands and pulling them.
"W-why?" Says Lana again, tripling along behind crybaby.
"It's the big bad wolf ice cream man." Crybaby sounds terrified, which is a rare occurrence. Hearing the trucks music get louder behind them, crybaby begins to whimper. The sickening tune is creating a pit in her stomach.
They run on until they arrive at Electra's street. The colorful van still follows them.
They sprint in to her home, slamming the door behind them. The lock clicks. They don't make a sound. Crybaby is shaking and holding them for dear life.
After ten minutes they begin to calm down.Until they hear a knock on the window.
