I'm not exactly sure how long we've been laying here. There's a calming silence between us, it's not awkward, and it doesn't feel like someone should say anything. That's the benefit of knowing someone for ten years I suppose. Every summer together since we were six, it was my parents' way of keeping me out of the way during the summer.
My Grumpy and Nonni paid for the plane ticket, and my parents didn't have to get a baby sitter during the summers. It was a win-win. Ireland felt like home.
My dad worked two jobs as a paramedic. A 24 hour shifts at the fire station followed by a 12 hour shift at the hospital ER. Mom worked as a paralegal and was always up at ridiculous hours researching for cases. But, Nonni and Grumpy were always there, even if they were so far away.
We know what the other one is thinking. Our last summer together. He'll be a big star, and I'll go back to my life just like every August.
Except next time I come back we won't be laying in the tree house my Grumpy built for us. Honestly, if it all works out the way he wants it, who knows when I'll actually see him next.
It's not that I don't want it to work out for him, I just know it will change. Everything is changing, and I just wish it would slow down.
"You won't forget me, right Banana?"
"I can't forget you. You're going to take over the world."
How could he think I would ever forget him, he's knows me better than anybody.
"I love you, Hannah."
"I love you too, Niall."
