“Mommy, what are you thankful for?” Peyton asked as she did every year from across the table holding her four year old daughter, Perrie, on her lap.

Jade let her eyes linger on the little girl in her lap that was olive skinned as her but had those crystal blue eyes that held her so content for the past forty years.

“I am thankful for your mom, because she gave me you both.” Jade simply said looking from Peyton to Jace, her twin children with the help of a surrogate mother and her late wife Perrie.

Perrie bounced on Peyton's lap reaching for her pumpkin pie graciously eating it with a grin over her lips.

The room was silent besides the sound of the twins other children outside playing the yearly game of football out back.

It was the first Thanksgiving since Perrie had died from a heart attack, tomorrow would be the nine month anniversary so the mood between the three wasn’t as it usually was this time of year.

“Mom, do you remember last year when Mama decided to try and make the turkey?” Jace spoke out his blue eyes shining brilliantly.

“Perrie!” Jade ran into the room after hearing a loud bang to see a laughing Perrie lying on the floor with a frozen turkey across her chest.

“The doctor said to keep it easy! You don’t want to have another heart attack!” Jade looked at her with worried eyes making Perrie just burst out into another fit of laugher as she rolled the turkey off her.

“Babe if you know anything it’s that I am not going anywhere I’m too stubborn.” She added simply leaning up to press a light kiss to Jade’s stubbled chin before standing up tossing the turkey back into the sink.

“Besides if I don’t make the turkey than who will?” Perrie wiggled her eyes at her wife.

“Maybe Leigh and Jordan, or Jesy and Jake, possibly even your siblings.” Jade rolled her eyes smirking knowing she wouldn’t win the fight anyways.

“I just want to help.” Perrie puckered out her bottom lip opening her eyes wide in the way that she always did when she wanted to do something Jade was opposed of- and of course Perrie got what she wanted and prepared the turkey before Jesy stepped in with Leigh and Katherine in tow kicking Perrie out of the kitchen.

Jade nodded her head as the three burst into laughter Perrie looking at them like they were crazy before going back to contently eating her pie.

“Or how about the time where she thought it would be funny to try and catch Arabella and Henry under the mistletoe last Christmas after she found out they were dating.” Leigh chimed in with her own accent, leaning against Jordan who was standing in the doorway.

*—*

“What do you mean they’re dating?!” Perrie flailed her arms around as Jordan, Leigh, and Jade just laughed at them. “How come no one tells me these things? If my grandchild is going to be with Jordan’s I should know these things!”

Jade walked over to Perrie giving her a soothing kiss on the cheek rubbing her shoulders calming the younger woman leaning down in her ear.

“Calm down baby, it’s fine they’re both almost of age now, they’re sixteen it was bound to happen sometime.”
