Squinting in consentration with beads of sweat resting on my brow I guided the warmth from my stomach up into my arm and then into my outstretched palm I had facing up. Just like that and it worked within moments I had a flame flickering in the flat of my palm.

"Cool" I muttered as a grin spread across my lips. The excitement of my discovery seemd intoxicating. I only just got here but I'm already stronger than I though I could ever be.

Chapter 7

The flame disappeared as I lost concentration because of the repetitive knocking on my door. "I bet you it was one of Matt's jokes" I heard someone say. The voice distinctly female. "Of course it is Jewel! There hasn't been a fire elemental in over a hundred years" a different second voice answers, though this one is definitly male, the deep baritone would be impossible for any girl to reach.

Mystified by their sudden appearance it too me a while before I remembered that the man from before, whom I'm guessing is an instructor, had said that someone would come to drop off my schedule. With a sigh I stood and made my way towards the door.

"Can I help you?" I asked a tone of irritation very prominent in my voice. I had been busy for what felt like hours trying to get that tiny flame. Who knows when I would or even if I would, ever, be able to do it again. Come to think of it... I can still feel the tingling in my fingers and the warmth in my chest. So maybe, just maybe, I will be able yo conjure the flame again?

The girl spun to face me, her eyes wide and mouth hanging open comically. Bright blue eyes. Happy eyes.  "Yeah, are you the fire Elemental?" The boy questioned. He looked to be about a year or two older than me, with sandy brown hair and dull brown eyes. "I am" I stated lifting my chin slightly as if to make myself taller. I will not be looked down upon by him. If I plan on starting over here, it's going to be the little things that make the difference...

"Here's you schedule" the girl said abruptly as she held out to me a piece of paper with black writing scratched across it. "Thanks" I said as I stepped back so as to close my door. If only I had caught the end of their exchange I would've saved myself so much heartache.

"It's true" the girl, Jewel whispered as she turned to stare at the boy her eyes still wide. "I wonder what this could mean for us" brown eyes asked frowning slightly.
"They're supposed to be extinct"
"I know that Jewel" he sighed
"We'll just have to wait and see what happens..." The girl trailed off as she turned on her heel, ready to walk away.
"She's going to need some friends" muttered the boy.
"We can always just watch from the sidelines... We've got enough problems as it is Jair" she whispered as she took the boys hand and pulled him along.

Closing the door I took a closer look at the paper given to me. "Thank the stars Dad had taught me to read" I mumbled as I took a seat on the couch. In my village most girl were only taught how to knit because everything else was taught to the boys. The village council had never seen the need for woman to be able to do anything. I think it is because they were afraid of our potential to over throw them if we were given the chance... Instead my father taught me to read in my younger years before our relationship went sour. For hours and Hours we had gine over the same words until finally they had made sense to me. I still fins it hard to believe that he had ever been that gentle and caring towards me ...

"What is this stuff, dance

"What is this stuff, dance..." I muttered in confusion. 'What am I going to do with dance?' I thought sighing. "Maybe this will do me some good" I murmured. "This is my fresh start after all." and just like that I had made the decision to do my best and to try and enjoy every aspect of this new life of mine. Whats the worst that can happen...

Suddenly I was pulled from my thoughts by the sound of a dying whale. "I'm hungry" I stated a blush rising to my cheeks. 'Thank goodness I'm alone!' I thought sighing slightly in relief. "Warts!" I exclaimed as I came to the realization that I, in actual fact,  do not know where the kitchen or food hall is... "Oh poop" I mumbled as I let out a groan of frustration. "Wait... " I trailed off as I cast my schedule a suspicious glance. "Maybe" I whispered as I took a closer look at the writing on the bottom of the page.

All students are to report to the food hall every morning at 08:00 AM on the dot for roll call.

*Breakfast is at 09:00 AM

*Lunch is at 1:00 PM

*Supper is at 5:00 PM

(Food hall- bottom floor, double doors)

"That worked out perfectly" I muttered as I trudged to my door, flung it open, making sure to close it behind me again and locked it. I would hate for anyone to get in there. I'm quite a private person by nature though I suppose that could also be because I brought some stuff with me that I don't want the others to see. Though to be fair the instructor never specifically told us we couldn't bring plants with us. "Nothing I can do about it now..." I mutter shrugging slightly.

I wonder what's for dinner...
