Farewell to Baleria

A few days had passed since Wes had passed Flynt's test, and the only contact from the Academy was a single note informing him what to bring with him when it's time to go. His staff, the entrance fee, and a prepared state of mind for any challenge.
None of this however told him when to expect to see his summons. He spent the last few days training with his new staff now that he no longer works at the Forge, and grew more comfortable with the staff.
Finnaly on the fourth day, when Wes opened to door to go outside to train, there was a man in a grey cloak with his hood down. It was a rather old man with short grey hair, and weary eyes that are too closed to be able to note any color.
He's noticeably taller than wes, by at least 9 inches and has to bend over a little bit to walk inside the house. The man looks over the house as though he were looking for something. Once he walks out of the kitchen he notices Wes giving him a strange look and speaks up with a breathy kind of voice.

"Excuse me little lady, have you seen a Wesley James around? I was told to pick him up in Baleria but it seems as though he isn't here, so I asked around town and was pointed here. Could you tell me where he is?"
Wes looks at the man with an even more confused face then before, "uh... I'm Wesley James, and for later reference, I am of the male gender."
The old man leans in a little too close to Wes' face and opens his eyes a little more revealing that they are a really foggy, pale green. "Oh, my apologies, my vision isn't what it used to be after a transportation spell went wrong. Well, are you ready to go?"
Wes holds his staff close to him with one hand, and a small bag containing 18 coins inside in the other. "Yes, but..." Wes looks around outside for a form of transportation, horse, carriage etc. But saw nothing, "how are we going to get there?"
The man straightens back up and motions Wes outside, "a transportation spell of course."
Wes stops walking and looks at the man, slightly worried. "How long ago did that transportation accident happen?"
The old man looks to Wes, "why, on the way here of course. I only got the hang of it yesterday."
Before wes could say another word, the old man had snapped his fingers and a searing hot sensation took over wes' body as he sees the old man transform into a wisp, and then seconds later turn into a wisp himself and fly into the sky.
All wes saw while he was a wisp was fire, and all he felt was fire. Though before he had time to think of anything, wes' form changed back into his usual one and slammed on his chest onto a stone floor. In pain he looked up to see the old man looking down at him smiling
"We're here."
