Cara's POV

I woke up, blinking and removing the sleep from my eyes. I looked around the room and it was dim. I was about to bend toward the roller table but I felt weight on my shoulder, legs and stomach. I remembered as it snapped into my thoughts, Kendall was sleeping beside me. I'm actually surprised she's not yet awake, but well, she's definitely tired.

I stretched my arm further and grabbed my phone from the roller table. I pressed on the home button with my thumb, checking the time, 6:30pm. Half an hour until my dinner comes. I placed my phone back on the roller table and pulled the table closer to me so next time I would take my phone, it wouldn't be hard. I laid back down, I couldn't sleep anymore, but I wanted to. I sighed, I need to listen to music. When I really couldn't take it anymore, I pressed on the orange button, calling a nurse. After roughly 3mins. there was soft knocking at the door.

"Come in!" I whispered as loud as I can, burning my throat a little bit.

The nurse opened the door and popped her head at the little gap she created.

"Yes miss?" She asked with a smile.

There were no lights in the room which made it impossible to identify the face of the nurse. The only light that was present was coming from the hallway but I couldn't make of it, I didn't know if she was Linda. The light in the hallway didn't help at all, it just made the nurse's face covered in shadow. Oh well.

"Do you happen to have any headphones?" I whispered loudly, careful not to wake Kendall but at the same time I was making sure the nurse was hearing me.

"Oh yes we do." The nurse smiled.

"Can I borrow one?" I asked, still whispering loudly.

"Yes sure miss!" She nodded. "I'll get it right away." She added, closing the door with a smile, not giving me a chance to thank her.

I grabbed my phone and checked the time again, 6:40pm, 20mins. left until dinner. I took hold of my phone and leaned back down, waiting for the headphones.

Another bizarre thought was about to go through my head until I heard the soft knocking again. I sat straight up which made Kendall move slightly. I paused, turning my head to look at Kendall, phew! That was close, she was still sleeping.

"Come in!" I whispered loudly, burning my throat once again.

The same nurse from awhile ago opened the door and came in with a pair of headphones in hand. She walked inside slowly and I stretched my hand out as far as I could, she stretched her hand out too, handing me the headphones.

"Thank you." I whispered to the nurse.

"No problem miss." She whispered back, I couldn't tell if she was smiling but I thought I saw the corners of her lips move slightly upwards.

"Oh wait miss!" My voice cracked, I nearly shouted.

"Yes miss?" The nurse turned towards me again.

"Can I skip dinner?" I asked.

"Yes, but aren't you going to starve miss?" She asked me.

"No it's alright." I said. "Maybe i'll just drink something." I added.

"Oh I could get you some milk if you like miss." The nurse pointed at a cabinet below the closet.

"Oh sure." I spoke, curious of what she was pointing at.

She walked over to the cabinet, and opened it then she moved her hand dragging it on something inside the cabinet. I tilted my head to look at it but I couldn't see what it was. She then dug her fingers in a dent on the object and pulled it. The object opened and an automatic light switched open lighting up the objects below it, now I knew what it was, it was a mini refrigerator. Wow, this hospital is sick, I mean sick in a good way. I mean, this is the first hospital i've ever been to that has a refrigerator inside a room. Anyways, the nurse closed the refrigerator and the cabinet. She walked towards me with a small milk tetra pack in hand. She handed me the milk and I thanked her.

The nurse walked out of the room greeting me with a simple nod, and this time I knew she had smiled because of the light in the hallway lighting up the corners of her lips. She closed the door slowly, giving out only one noise, the click of the door attaching itself to the frame.

I stuck the straw on the tetra pack and sipped on the straw for maybe seconds. When I finally heard the crackling sound, signaling that I had reached the bottom of the package, I placed the empty tetra pack on top of my roller table and laid back down.

I unlocked my phone and plugged in the headphones. I hovered my thumb over the apps until I spotted the music icon. I tapped on it and scrolled down to the letter H. I searched for the song through my eyes and there it was. A smile crept in my mouth and I clicked on the song.

I closed my eyes and fixed myself between Kendall as the strumming of the guitar had started. I kissed Kendall's forehead with the singers voice ringing inside my ears, the sound waves traveling around my head. I swear I saw Kendall's lips form a weary smile and it fell. She was once again in deep slumber.

Don't you worry about the distance,
I'm right there if you get lonely,
Give this song another listen close your eyes,
Listen to my voice it's my disguise,
I'm by your side.

I watched Kendall as she slept, I couldn't see her well with the darkness of the room. But even within the darkness, I knew in my head that she looked like an angel while asleep. My head created a picture of her asleep, hair flowed in waves to adorn her glowing but fragile skin. Her eyes, framed by long lashes and covered with heavy eyelids, were a dark, chocolate brown and they seemed to brighten the world. A straight nose, lips slightly parting, trying to stay together - she was the definition of perfection.

"I swear, i'll never let you go." I whispered to Kendall, even though I knew she couldn't hear me in her sleep. "I love you Kenny." I added, as a tear rolled down my cheek.

A thousand miles seems pretty far,
But they've got planes and trains and cars,
I'd walk to you if I had no other way,
Our friends would all make fun of us,
And we'll just laugh along because.
We know that none of them have felt this way.

I closed my eyes and placed my hand on top of Kendall's. I was drifting off, and at that moment, Kendall intertwined our hands.

And I was sure, definitely sure, that at that moment,

my heart

skipped

a beat.
