I stayed with the twins for a week in the apartment, waiting for the all clear. My babies were already evidently growing and I could see the changes in them. I was bathing Fawn, I remember, when I heard the door downstairs open. I froze, then moved as quick as lightning, wrapping Fawn in a towel, grabbing my wand, moving from the bathroom to the living room, grabbing Fafnir from his cot and running into the bedroom. I hid in the cupboard with my babies clutched to me, my wand gripped in my hand tightly. I heard them coming up the stairs and my breath caught in my throat. I knew I'd put protection charms in place and only Fred and George would be able to pass through them, but I couldn't be sure that it would be them, enchantments can be broken. The person paused in the living room, then came towards the bedroom, their footsteps seeming to ring loudly about my head. They looked around the room, then came towards the cupboard and I gripped my wand tighter, ready to curse the living daylights out of them. The door swung open and Fred looked in on us. I let out a sigh of releif and stood up, then took the babies out of the cupboard with me, going into the living room, Fred following me. I put the babies in the cots and turned quickly, my wand pointed at Fred's heart. He put his hands up and smiled at me.
"What did Ron Weasley say to me that made me angry that night?" I asked him, hoping it was a good enough question.
"I think it was 'How can I trust you?'."
"Correct," I said, smiling back at him and lowering my wand, "sorry, but I had to check. Is George alright now? Did Molly get the bleeding to stop quick enough?"
"How do you know about that?" he asked.
I raised an eyebrow, "I know a lot of things. Now come sit down and tell me everything."
We both sat on the sofa and he took me in his arms, holding me close.
"From the sound of it, I don't need to tell you anything, you already know it all," he said.
"It's nice to have it from another point of veiw," I replied.
He obviously didn't know what I was on about, but he told me everything anyway.I enjoyed the sound of his calm tone, his laugh and his reasuring smile. I'd missed him more than I thought I would. After his story he took each of the babies in his arms and cuddled them, cooing and telling them how much he'd missed them. He looked up at me with bright eyes.
"Will you be coming back to the Burrow with me?" he asked.
"I would love to," I sighed, "but I don't think it's safe for me anymore."
"Then me and George will come back here and we'll stay with you. I love you Caramela, being away from you is killing me."
"Oh Fred," I sighed, wrapping my arms about him and the babies.
"I see you tidied up," he said, "where are the rats going to sleep now?"
I laughed with him for a while, just happy to have someone to talk to. I would stay here with them, I decided, because it would mean safety for me and the babies. I wouldn't be able to take them with me into the wild because it would be too dangerous, so I would have to leave them behind. I'd have to leave them with Fred and George. Just thinking about it made my heart break, even though I knew that they'd be safe. After a time Fred sent an owl to George to come back when he could and put nothing in it about me, because I insited he didn't as I knew that their post was being monitored. George arived an hour after the owl was sent, a big grin on his face when he saw me and the babies, he loved them like they were his own. From that day I styed with them for a month, watching my babies grow in love and develop themselves. In my time there I helped run the shop behind the scenes and there was a surprising amount of business. On one of the days the guys were having a talk about the products and how they needed a brand new product out there, something spectacular.
