"Y-You're moving? But you just got here."
"I know, Andy Pandy, but it's not forever. I'm just staying with my cousins until my parents get back from their business trip. I'm not leaving Maryland, I promise."
"I know but, I don't want you to go." I whispered the last part, wincing at how pathetic my voice sounded.
"I'll be closer than you think." Luke smirks, draping his arm across my shoulder before tackling me back onto my bed.
"Promise?"
"Promise."
~~~
"Bye, Mr. and Mrs.Cartway!" I say as I envelope them in a hug. This was it, the day I had been dreading for the longest time.
"Bye, darling. We'll be back soon enough." Mrs. Cartway replied as she pulled me back in for another hug while Mr. Cartway playfully ruffled me hair before leaving to help Luke finish loading the car.
"It's not forever, you know. And I'm still here!" I heard from beside me as I bent down to gather my stuff.
"I know, I just- I don't know. It's weird how attached you can come to people after a few months."
"I know the feeling." I finally straightened up to see Luke smiling down at me, directing all his attention to my tomato-face before I buried my face in the crook of his neck, reaching up while he slouched down.
"Hey Andy, do you want a ride back home? I'm going over there anyway."
"Sure, that would be great." I reply as I slowly pull away from his warmth before he lazily slung his arms around my shoulders.
~~~
"Luke, why are you in my neighbors driveway?" I ask, confusion clear in my voice.
"You know you're new neighbors?"
I just nodded my head in reply, not sure where he was going with this.
"This is my cousin's house, the one I'm staying at for the next three months." By this point we were out of the car and I squeled before latching my arms around his neck as I pulled him in for a hug.
I quickly pulled away and slapped him, placing a quick kiss on his reddening cheek before pulling him back into a hug.
"What was that for?!" Luke exclaimed, rubbing his cheeck with one hand while his other wrapped around the small of my back.
"You tricked me into thinking you were going far away! How did you think I would react?"
"Well, would it make you feel better if I said i had help?"
"Not really."
"Well, Sophia helped me. Now go to your room, I have a surprise." At this he ran into his temporary house, leaving me to walk to mine in confusion.
I quickly clambered up the stairs, walking in my room to see nothing out of the ordinary except for a sketchbook and markers. What is this about? I asked myself before turning to the window where a flicker of movement caught my eye. I turned around to see Luke on his bed holding a sketchbook similar to mine before holding it up for me to read.
"Do you like your surprise?"
"Very much" I write back, smiling at how downright cheesy this was.
"What are you doing on Saturday?" Luke quickly scribbled out, his handwriting perfectly messy.
"Detention :P" I reply, making a face as he looked back at me.
