For the sake of this oneshot NOT turning into a 3000 word story, I'm going to be doing it in parts...so yeah...
Also, fun fact: In many pirate communities, it was allowed for two male pirates to essentially get married to each other in a kind of civil partnership, and many did.
The more you know...
*~*~*~*
The waves crashed against the hull of the vessel mercilessly, as if without any regard for the human life on board.
The sails screamed out as the strong winds battered straight into them.
Shouts echoed across the deck.
The ship creaked and groaned under the strain but remained buoyant nonetheless, much to the relief of the terrified men on board.
A short, chestnut haired teen ran across the deck, dodging the flurries of salt water cascading over the sides.
The salt water stung his eyes.
He never wanted to even be here in the first place; swabbing the decks until his hands were raw, eating salted meat and maggoty crackers until his stomach screamed, holding down a screaming friend on their visit to the surgeon who also doubled as the ships cook, living a life of hell on the high seas.
No, his life would have been infinitely better than this- press ganged at the town carnival at the age of 16, only to wake up on this floating prison in the middle of the ocean.
He couldn't complain however, the same had happened to his friend Kazemaru, and that new kid with the eyepatch.
But if this storm meant business, they'd all surely be dead soon anyway.
The boy was plucked from his thoughts however when he heard someone calling his name in a distressed manner.
"Hey Tachi look out!" The voice screamed as a cannon came loose from its shackled position and began barreling straight towards him.
Although he had been contemplating his own demise- death my cannon squashing was not his first choice.
Quickly, he managed to move himself over to the side before being squashed like a pancake. Much to the relief of the first mate, Endou Mamorou.
"Ah mate, bloody hell! I thought you were a goner there!" He shook the boy by the shoulders double checking that he was in fact, alive.
"Uh, yeah thanks for warning me." The boy started, catching his breath slightly as the waves continued to batter the ship.
"We need to secure those cannons down or-" his sentence was cut off by the sound of a door slamming open behind him.
The captain.
He held onto his hat with one hand, red hair flicking wildly in the wind, whilst his other arm was slung loosely around the waist of a green haired male looking like he's just been woken up.
Hiroto gave a lopsided grin to his crewmen, a wild fire in his eyes.
"What are yer screaming about out here, you woke up me and the missus-" he gestured to the green haired male who only held tighter to him as a response. "-scared of a wee storm are ya?" He asked laughing a hearty laugh.
The captain surveyed the group, all pale and shivering, his eyes fell upon the first mate and a slightly taller blue haired teen.
"You two, climb up that mast and tie up the main sails!" The red head shouted with a sneer.
Kazemaru quickly complied, but a Endou stood frozen in fear- he had never really been one for heights.
"Captain I.." His voice trembled, until he felt a comforting hand on his shoulder.
"Captain, let me go instead." Tachimukai sated calmly, eyes deadly serious as Endou just looked at him dumbfounded.
"I'm faster and more nimble than Endou and-"
"Okay whatever, go." Hiroto waved his hand lazily, not knowing if he boy was just brave or stupid.
"And everyone else-" he turned his attention back to the group "-start securing down the heavy cargo, unless you want that all crashing on top of you too!" He barked, heading back inside his cabin.
Tachimukai raced up the mast with much protest from the first mate-
"Do you have a death wish or something!" He called, only for it to fall on empty ears.
The two teens worked quickly, securing the sails off and holding onto to whatever they could for dear life as the boat began to tip and sway more violently, and the beams became more slippery.
"Tachimukai, be careful now, don't slip." Kazemaru urged as the boy walked across a particularly old looking beam. He reached over to grab the loose rope-
"I've almost got it..." He said standing on his tip toes. "-got i-aarghhh!" He screamed as a large gust of wind pushed a nearby wooden block pulley straight into him, causing his to lose his balance.
His friend tried to grab him, but he was too far out of reach. The boat tipped again on one side, as the boy fell screaming into the water below.
"Man over board!" Endou shouted, preparing to throw the teen a line, however he could not see the teen anywhere and the cursed winds had picked up again.
"Tachi where are you! Where-"
"He's gone Endou...there's no point saving him now...you'll risk too many lives!" A young man with dreadlocks said beside him as he watched the swirling waves swallow up their friend.
Darkness cascaded onto the boy, his lungs screamed at him as they tried to take in what little oxygen he had left, he was not sure how many times he had been tossed around in the waves.
He blacked out.
Subconsciously, he thought he felt strong arms around him, almost in an embrace? No. Like he was being pulled from the waters by something or someone.
When he awoke, he was laying on a cold stone surface. Disorientated, he tried to get up, only to feel a burning sensation across his chest.
He looked down and grimaced at the large gash across his chest- although, on closer inspection, it seemed to have been bandaged in some kind of algae?
Out of the corner of his eye, he saw a splashing motion over by a rock near the ledge he was currently perched from.
He put the pieces together in his mind; someone had rescued him that night, and brought him into this cave, they'd also tended to his wounds.
The teen gulped slightly. "Is there anyone out there?" He asked, looking around for where that splashing sound had come from.
When he got no reply, he sat up painfully and grabbed his chest, cursing.
This seemed to grab the attention of a certain individual.
A head popped up from underneath the water- glistening golden eyes peered into the others brown ones, long pink hair flowing behind him gracefully as he swam over to the ledge.
Tachimukai was so transfixed by those other worldly eyes that he nearly jumped out of his skin when the stranger grabbed hold of his shoulders and gently pushed him back down to a laying position.
His tanned muscular torso catching the attention of the teen.
That was until he saw the shimmering blue tail softly splashing behind him.
Tachimukai didn't even have the strength to freak out anymore, "you're a...a mermaid?" he said quietly, trying to take it all in.
The merman smiled warmly and laid a hand on the others chest- a warmth like he'd never experienced before spread through his body, and a soft blue light glowed around his fingertips as they stared into each other's eyes.
"Rest." Was all he commanded slipping back into the water.
Mesmerised once more, Tachimukai complied.
