Chapter XI - He Makes Her Smile

I hug it to my chest, inhaling it's scent and wanting this to be him. My tears are set free and I let my sobs escape the prison of my throat.

5 years later:

I wake up because of the golden rays of the sun shining in my face.

Unusual butterflies flap their wings in my stomach and I'm confused as to why this is happening

Resuming my normal schedule I scroll through my social media. Scowling at people showing off their perfect lives with their perfect healthy food and just like normal times, giving the whole world unrealistic standards to climb up to.

Perceive, the problem with such things is that when people see such pictures, their mind renders itself into thinking that they can achieve this level of happiness and then, afterward, all they are left with is this.....this negative, stupid, petty version of themselves and the worst thing is that they find comfort in it.
They start liking it.

I open YouTube and there it is.
Bringing a smile to my face.
Maybe the only thing that brings a smile to my face

"Hey, Amy I'm making blueberry pancakes!" Rose says excitedly.

"And we both know they're going to be amazing" says Kim coming inside the kitchen with a sleepy face.

Now now, don't go scrunching your nose.
I'll tell everything
I share an apartment with these two

You can never judge it at first but they have been best friends since middle school.
They are both polar opposites and I'll tell you how.

Rose is the party animal.
She never misses one party and I'm surprised at how good she's doing in college considering she barely studies.
She tries to settle her curly brown hair into a bun but they are uncontrollable.
She is black and like very gorgeous so I'm not surprised by how many guys want to date her.
It's especially hilarious when they start the conversation thinking she's easy and dates every other guy and she shuts them down with her sarcasm.

Next is Kim, she is what they call 'nerd' though she isn't always studying like people think she is. She's just super smart.

"What day is it?" Kim rubs her eyes and runs a hand through her blonde hair

"Saturday!" me and Rose shout.

"Oohh so Mason uploads a video today" Kim says, trying to sound energetic but fails miserably.

"He does, doesn't he?" Rose looks at me and wiggles her eyebrows

I swear to God, I will die one day and in the year 4000 all the great-great-great-grandkids of my friends will be teasing my grave about Mason.

"Yes he does. In fact I'm gonna watch it right now" I challenge her with my eyes and rush upstairs to get my phone.

I come downstairs and plop on the kitchen stool.

"I like him" Rose says, her voice taking a soft edge.

"Who doesn't?" Kim says and yawns

"Everyone does but I like him more because he makes her smile" she looks at me and smiles and I try to smile back.
