Klaus rolled out of bed to attend to a fussy Hope. Hayley was away leaving him to look after her on his own, not that he had any issues.

"It's okay now love, daddy's here." He whispered pacing around the room.

He bounced her in his arms which instead of making her tired, gave her more energy.

"I don't think you want to go back to sleep do you?"

She gave a toothless smile as Klaus sat down with her on a rocking chair.

"Sometimes I wish you mother spent more time away, but she is very irritating in her ways of wanting to always be around you. Now, should we read a story?"

Hope gurgled and Klaus took it as a yes.

"Once upon a time, there was a beautiful princess. She lived in a castle with her dad, the King Klaus Mikaleson, and her uncles Elijah, Kol and Finn and her aunts Freya and Rebekah. She lived a sheltered life, but her father did it to protect her from the harsh outside world. One day she was playing out in the garden when an evil vampire tried to-" Klaus was interrupted by a knock on the door.

He sighed and got up.

Hope gurgled which made Klaus smile.

"Yes, even I hate it when story time is interrupted."

He opened the door and was surprised by what he saw.

"Caroline?"

"I'm sorry for showing up like this but I needed to get away from Mystic Falls."

"Of course, come in"

"Is this Hope?"

"Yes, this my daughter"

"Oh my god, she's adorable."

Klaus smiled down at her.

"I'll put her back to bed and I'll be back, make yourself comfortable."

Caroline nodded as Klaus left. She looked around the Mikaelson home. It was grand. The house was huge and it looked amazing. Klaus' portraits decorated the walls, the neutral colours gave the house a kind of homey feeling alongside the warm fires. It seemed that no one else was home. Not Elijah, not Rebekah not even Hayley, she unbuttoned her coat and placed it over the sofa and took a seat.

Klaus returned, alcohol in tow, a few moments later.

"How have you been?"

"Erm, let's see, my best friend got put to sleep by a heretic for 70 years. that same heretic killed his sister and her unborn children were moved to my womb so I carried around two vampire witch children. So I guess I've been great."

Klaus chuckled lightly.

"So where are the rest of 'The Originals?'"

"Elijah is off doing god knows what. Rebekah had to be daggered again. The sister I thought I lost thousands of years ago is still alive and she is out partying. Hope's mother is in the bayou with her wolfy friends, Kol has been resurrected for the second time along with Finn and I am here, with you"

"Wow, seems like you guys have had a lot going on."

"Yes, well it can't be anything compared to yours or you wouldn't have even dared to come here."

"Well, motherhood has its downsides and well there's just been a lot going on and there isn't really anywhere else for me to go, so I came here."

Klaus poured two glasses and handed one to Caroline. She took a sip and sighed contently.

"God, I've missed this for the past 9 months."
