Instead of turning down the street that would lead to my house, Levi kept driving. "Where are we going?" I asked him.
"On a date, our first date, as boyfriends," he answered.
We pulled up to a McDonald's. "McDonald's? For a date? Isn't that a bit...classless?" I questioned.
"Not classless, but casual," Levi answered. As we exited the car, the wind blew Levi's hair extravagantly, to make him look dangerous. He confidently took my hand and walked to the building.
We entered the line to order. Once we reached the front, Levi started his order, "I'll have a cheeseburger and a large fries. This brat'll have the same."
"That'll be 12 dollars," the cashier said. Levi handed him a 20 dollar bill. He received the change due and we stepped to the side to wait for our food.
We stood looking straight ahead, and still holding hands. Levi squeezed my hand. The tight grasp surprised me. I glanced at our hands, then squeezed back to signal that I'm paying attention. In this moment, we connected. Levi and I were in sync with each other, in terms of emotions and feelings towards each other.
"Two cheeseburgers and two large fries!" the employee called out. We walked to go pick up our food. I carried the tray, having to let go of Levi's hand. We sat down at a booth next to a window and started eating.
I took a big bite of my burger. I felt some ketchup fall onto my cheek. "Let me get that," Levi said, casually. He leaned close to me and licked the side of my face, wiping away the ketchup.
While he was still leaning towards me, we made eye contact for a few seconds. His eyes looked so chill, and normal. I could feel mine widening. Levi smiled then sat back down.
Once we were in our original positions, I looked to the side to see two old people looking at Levi and I, disgusted. I looked back at Levi.
"Those people look so disgusted by us," I said, laughing while simultaneously embarrassed. Levi turned his head immediately to see the same old people glaring at us.
He stood up abruptly, walking straight to the couple. "Do you have a problem?!" Levi yelled. All of the customers turned to stare at us. "So? Do you have a fucking problem?" He kept the same expressionless face.
"Levi! Sit down!" I said.
The old people tried to ignore him, turning their faces away. "Listen sir, I'm going to need you to quiet down," an employee said, tapping him on the shoulder. Levi hit her arm and she pulled back.
He walked straight up to the old people. "If you have a fucking problem with me and my brat of a boyfriend, I'll fucking kill you, you unworthy little shits from the nineteenth century," Levi whispered, close to their faces.
Intimidated, they backed off and got their food then left the restaurant as quick as possible.
Levi sat back down. At this point, the entire restaurant was giving us strange looks and attempting not too stare for too long. Levi was entirely nonchalant, as if nothing happened. I felt slightly uncomfortable getting all of this unwanted attention.
After a brief awkward moment of silence, I spoke, "What was that for, Captain?"
He finished chewing his food then looked up at me. "Homophobic people make me sick," he said.
"Well they might've not been homophobic, just uncomfortable watching you lick my freaking face!" I said, sort of joking but also not.
"Tch, they should get used to it," Levi said. After saying this, he sprung onto me and gave me a big, sloppy kiss. Even more people looked at us. "I shouldn't have to hide my affection," he whispered.
