--- Nique ---

Knock and it shall be opened unto you

Why do I feel like this week has been stressful than usual?

"- - - I went it over with Tom and he did say he'd okay it if you - -"

"Nique?" Kevin called catching my attention.

"Ah, I'm sorry. Could we take this up some other time?" I excused.

"Ah, of course. You must be tired," he said and made a move to leave.

"Then, I'll see you again tomorrow then," he said and left.

Sighing, I instantly laid my forehead down on the table. Seems like I do feel tired, and a little hot since the table felt cool on my forehead.

Before I could close my eyes for a light nap, I felt my head being raised a little and a piece of cloth being placed beneath it as a pillow.

"Tired?" he asked.

"Oh, it's you again," I wanted to retort but I felt too tired to even do so making it sound too weak. He chuckled.

"Shouldn't you be waiting tables? You're not getting paid just to sit there," I managed to say as I comfortably fixed my position on the pillow he made with my arms.

"The manager's not here," he answered wittingly.

"Figures," I scoffed and tried to fall asleep. I did want say something, but I felt too tired to even try scolding him. But seconds later, images of what happened that night in his car came flashing in my head.

I sighed.

Why can't I forget about it like I usually do? why do I only remember when you're there? I'm fine whenever you're not around.

"Stop bothering me even in my sleep. I'm tired."

Nique obviously looked tired.

"If you don't want me to put you into cleaning duty, stop slacking off," I heard the manager threaten as he walked past me. He stopped threatening me with dishwashing duties ever since he found out I've broken half of dishes in the kitchen – or the fact that the chef kept making me rewash every pot before he could use it.

Jeez, it's early in the morning and he's nagging already.

When a couple of customers came in, Chris also came in for his shift. Over the past week, I noticed that every morning, once Chris comes in, hawk-eye leaves to restock after doing an inventory in the morning – since it is also not rush hour this early in the morning. Which means that's the only time I can finally go over Nique's table.

After a couple of seconds, the manager indeed left, and as luck is on my side, so did the person Nique was talking to – which was unusual.

When I saw Nique resting her head on the table, I immediately got my spare jacket in my locker and went to her.

"Tired?" I said after laying her head on the jacket I made as a pillow.

"Oh, it's you again," she retorted but sounded too weak. She didn't even bother to look up at me. I chuckled.

"Shouldn't you be waiting tables? You're not getting paid just to sit there," she continued as she fixed herself on the pillow.

"The manager's not here," I merely answered.

"Figures," she mumbled and closed her eyes.

I was thinking of just sitting there with her until she fully went to sleep when I felt her sighing.

"Nique?" I called softly but she didn't answer. When I saw her mumbling something, I tried drawing my head closer to her lips.

"Stop bothering me even in my sleep. I'm tired." She muttered in her sleep as she gently touched her lips. Moments later, I heard her breathing deeply as she finally went into a deep sleep.

I didn't know why but I can't help myself from smiling. Maybe because now I know I was actually her first.
