Let's Call It Love

Chapter 20

Surprise Attack

Scarlette stumbled down to the kitchen, starving. Her Mom looked at her, wondering why she looked like a mess.

"Hey Darling." She greeted her daughter with a warm hug.

"Morning mom."

Elaine (Scar's Mom) eyed her daughter's face. She saw that she had puffy eyes and a slightly red nose. Did she cry? She wondered.

Elaine handed Scarlette scrambled egg's with steamed rice, Scar's favorite. Scar's face lit up and she ate.

Someone's was coming to the kitchen. He came, and went directly to the sink, washing something.

"Hey dear, want Breakfast?" Elaine asked, holding out a big sliver spoon full of eggs.

"Thanks Mrs. Wright." Spencer said with a polite smile.

Elaine served him the same thing and walked away from the kitchen, glancing once at the teenagers.

"Morning," Spencer greeted before taking a spoonful of scrambled eggs.

Scar nodded politely, showing no signs of emotion. She kept on taking bites, handling them with care before swallowing.

"I haven't formally introduced myself, I'm Spencer." He held out his hand for her to shake.

She shook it lightly, returning to her breakfast. "I'm Scarlette, but call me Scar."

Spencer was intrigued by Scarlette and her quietness today, despite the fact that she was all bubbly at the beach.

"What's your dog's name?" She asked, and stopped eating.

"Chester," He replied, as she nodded.

A thought popped in his mind. Why was she crying last night? He asked himself in his head.

Without thinking, "Why were you crying yesterday?" He blurted out.

This question, of course, surprised her. Why is he asking me this? She asked herself.

She cleared her throat, "That's none of your business." She simply said.

That answer was not enough for Spencer, so he frowned.

"Actually is, I saw you crying when I tried to ask for my table." Spencer pointed out.

Scar took another spoonful, clashing her teeth with the silver spoon.

"Well ignore it. Don't be all up in my grill." Scarlette snapped at the curious boy.
