Kohl placed his hand on my arm and I looked up at him to see a different softness to him. He inched a little closer to me. I looked at him in surprise. He wouldn't kiss me now, would he?
His hand on my arm held me like I was the most delicate thing ever. I almost inched forward to him too.
But I must have hit something as I tried to tiptoe to him because 2 cans came toppling down, 1 hitting Kohl's foot.
"Ouch!" "Oh no, are you okay?!" He looked at me in confusion and then cleared his throat completely disregarding the moment we'd just had.
Kohl opened the door to the room we'd been in and pulled me along with him, not caring if anyone saw us come out together. I guess it really was a big deal for him to show May that he had moved on.
I couldn't help but think, at what expense though? exploiting ourselves like that, showing our fake relationship to her so that she would back off but how about these family members who already knew the circumstances that we'd got married in.
Luckily no one was near the closet so no one saw us sneak out. I sighed in relief, Kohl, however, didn't look so impressed.
I went to talk to some of Kohl's cousins and aunties and they all seemed really nice and it was a nice break from Kohl and May's drama especially now that I was also involved and Kohl and I were acting as if nothing happened in the storeroom. It was safe to safe to say it was a little awkward between the two of us after we left the storeroom.
I sat beside his cousins on their table as we continued to talk. I could see that Kohl was across the room, when I looked at him, he looked at me too. But we both looked away instantly.
I don't know why it was suddenly weird for us, but it was. Kohl was coming towards my direction so I got up to walk away but before I could, he called out to me so I stopped in my tracks. "Yeah?" "Uh..." He nervously scratched at his neck. "It's getting quite late we should probably go now." "Ah yeah... Let me just say bye to everyone." He nodded in response.
I couldn't have rushed any faster to say goodbye to everyone. His cousins hugged me. "It was really nice seeing your Dara, come down here again! We should do something ok?" "Yeah, sure!" One of them even added "You know when I first heard that you were marrying Kohl, I instantly thought you wouldn't be a good match for him. But now that I've seen you and spoken to you, you're both perfect for each other!" "Did you see how lovey-dovey they looked earlier! They could barely keep away from each other!" Another one of his cousins added. I could feel myself burning up.
Kohl had come up to us then, "What are you girls all giggling about?" "You!" They all giggled and said bye again and left us alone.
"Oh okay..." He looked at me once again in confusion. "Do I want to know?" I smiled and shook my head "Na, you're good." "Ready?" He gave me his arm so that we could link arms and then as if he'd remembered something he retracted his hand back. He looked down at his feet.
We got into his car. "How about May?" I asked a few minutes after he started driving. He kept his eyes on the road "Who? Oh. I mean what about her?" "You didn't really say bye to her. I mean did your plan work?" "I'm sure it did." He didn't really say anything else. So, I stayed quiet for the rest of the ride home.
I even napped for a bit until someone shook me. "Hm? wh-what happened?" I asked Kohl. "I must've taken a wrong turn I can't figure out where we are." "What do you mean you don't know where we are?" "Well, I could figure it out. But I know the car will stop somewhere down the road." "I don't know what you're saying, what are you telling me?" "The tire might have been a little punctured before we started moving." "So why did we start moving?!" I asked as I was starting to get frustrated. "I did say it might have been a little punctured." "Well now, what do we do?!" "I'm gonna find the nearest service station. Look we'll be fine." I nodded because at this point there was no point in getting mad. "Ok, I'll call someone. Maybe they can help us out." "Gee, Dara. You think I didn't try that. There's no service here!" "And how am I supposed to know that, I just woke up. This is your fault." "Yeah well, whatever just come out with me. We can ask someone."
