I was stuck for words as I watched her in awe come out of the bathroom in that dress.
I'd always known that Dara was beautiful but this was a whole new beautiful. The sight of her made me freeze instantly.
Her pretty hair, how I wanted to move it aside and tuck it behind her ears. Her delicate hands, how I wanted to intertwine mine with hers.
I shook my head to get rid of those thoughts.
I hated that she had this power over me. Her long legs. I gulped. I'm weak for Dara and I've known this for a while. But there's no way I'd admit it to her. For as long as I've known, I'm supposed to hate her. I do hate her. But there was no way I was allowing her to share this sight of her to anyone. But for me.
I couldn't believe I called her a whore. I. Didn't. Mean. It. I just didn't want her to wear that dress. I fucked up.
"Dara, I didn't mean it. I'm sor-" "You're what Kohl?! Don't say something you don't mean!" Dara shouted from the bathroom.
I kept knocking on the door hoping she'd come out. "But I am sorry, believe me, I don't know why I said that."
"Oh, I know why you did. You're an idiot, Kohl. As far as I'm concerned you can go to the wedding on your own. Leave me alone!"
"No Dara, you have to come! P-Please." I couldn't believe that I was basically begging her.
I could just slap myself right now. I was apologizing to her.
Who I hate. Or did I? I don't even know. The past couple of days I'd just been confused.
She finally came out of the bathroom, she confidently walked towards me. There was almost no space for both of us to catch our breath.
She almost looked startled by how close we were. I smirked and then looked at her apologetically, remembering that I'd just upset her some minutes ago. "I'm sor-"
"Look let's get one thing straight, yeah? Yeah?" She glared at me.
"Uh-uh yeah, course." I nervously replied. "I'm no whore." "I know, I'm sorry I didn't mean-" "No. You. You're the whore. You're the one who gave me this dress. You brought it. You wear it, you whore."I looked at her confused and then sniggered trying really hard not to laugh at her. I failed. I'm pretty sure I spat at her face whilst I laughed hysterically like a hyena. She looked at me disgustedly but laughed right back too.
I stopped to look at her. She really was the most beautiful person in the world. I crept in closer to her, tilting my head as I did. She gave me that look again that she always did when she was confused. She had her eyes wide open, with her mouth in a nervous pout and her eyebrows straight as a line.
I shook my head as I realised what I was about to do and looked around as I scratched the back of my neck.
I sat at the bed and patted her to sit beside me. We sat in silence for a minute or two.
"Are you worried about going to the wedding and seeing all your family from your dad's side?" I let out a deep breath.
"It's not that I'm worried, it's that I haven't seen them in a while and I just don't feel that connection with them anymore. Like as if... they're not family to me?" "But they are, aren't they?" "Yeah." "Will your dad be there?" "I hope not." "Maybe it could be good you know, to see him." "I don't know Dara."
My eyes remained on the ground as I could sense Dara facing me, "wouldn't it be nice to reconnect with them all and your dad? It could be really, really good. It's been a while since I've seen him too."
"Can we, can we not talk about him right now?" I said as I finally looked at her to meet her gaze. "Huh? Oh. Yeah, sure. Sorry." She let out a nervous laugh.
I smiled at her. She looked at the ground and smiled back. "I should probably change or else we'll be late." "Yeah you should, with the time you take to get ready, the couple might have already flown off to their honeymoon. Right honeymoon, when are we going on ours?" I asked, teasing her.
She scoffed "Yeah right." She began to rise up from the bed and looked at the other two dresses lying there. "Dara, you clean up nicely, you know?"
"What do you mean?" "You look hot." I teased her as I looked her up and down in a sleazy way.She groaned and covered her chest with her left hand. I scoffed and winked at her. "Ugh! Move aside." She pushed me hard on my chest.
She grabbed the floral dress off the bed. "How's this?" "It's alright. Don't you think it's-" "What, is it too short?" "Jeez no Dara, it's not short enough." "Real mature, idiot. After you called me a whore and all, wearing this dress." She gazed down at the long dress she had on.
"Thanks," I replied trying to steer away from the topic.
She went to change into the dress. "Dara?" I shouted outside the bathroom door. "What is it, Kohl?" She responded coldly.
"Remind me to tell you to wear that dress for me one day."
No response. I smirked holding back laughter.
