Beep. Beep. Beep.
I groaned and sat up, my blonde hair tumbling in front of my eyes. Most girls hated their hair. I loved the way it curled slightly at the bottom. I loved how blonde it was. I don't mean to be vain, but I personally thought I was very pretty. I hadn't told anyone that.
I quickly jumped out of bed, threw on something for school, grabbed my backpack and archery equipment, and dashed downstairs.
"Morning sweetie." My mother said. She was cooking something by the stove and my fourteen year old brother, Jake, was sitting at the table. Dad was probably at work.
"I can't believe my baby is seventeen already!"
Jake snickered.
"Mom." I said in exasperation.
"Seems like it was only yesterday that I first held you in my arms."
"Mom. I've been seventeen for, like, three days now."
"I know. But-"
"Crap!" I cried. "Is that the time? I have to go! I'll see you after archery!"
"You know," Jake spoke up, "Most kids just play football or cheerleading for their sport."
"So?"
"So, you're a geek."
I rolled my eyes and dashed out. My school was only like five blocks away.
Lyn was my neighbor but she'd probably be late again so I ran past her house. I hated how Mom wouldn't let me use her car. I could be at the school in less than five minutes.
I froze. What the hell is that? I wondered. A column of blue light was shooting down from the clouds and into the backyard of a nearby house. Was I the only one who could see it? The street was empty though.
The light faded. There was a thud. A boy about my age wandered out from the backyard, muttering to himself.
He was a strange-looking boy. He had blonde hair and blue eyes. He had pointed ears like an elf which was really strange. He was wearing a green tunic and matching hat with a white shirt and pants. He had floppy brown boots and brown gauntlets. He kind of scared me because he had a sword and shield strapped to his back.
"Um, are you looking for the fencing school thing?" I asked.
"No. Where am I?"
"Are you serious? Are you like drunk or something?"
The boy glared at me. "No. I just time traveled. Give me a damn break."
I scoffed. "Sure. Time traveled. 'Cause that's possible."
I continued walking.
"Wait!" the boy yelled. He ran to catch up to me. "Please help me. Where am I?"
I sighed. "Boston, Massachusetts."
"Where in Boston?"
"Roslindale."
"Yes!" He pumped his fist in the air. "Do you know Princess-"
My phone rang. I pulled it out. It was Mia.
"Hey." I said, ignoring the boy's amazed and confused expression.
"I'm running late. Tell Mr. Spindell that I slept in so he won't think I'm doing drugs or something. Are you on your way to school?"
"Yeah. I think this boy is too."
"Boy? What boy?"
"I don't know. I just met him. He's dressed kind of weirdly."
"Hey!" the boy cried.
"Was that him? He sounds hot! Is he hot?"
I looked at him. He was very hot. "He's okay I guess."
"I've got to run. Tell me ALL about him later, k?"
"Try not to make this into a big deal." I hung up. Turning to the boy, I snapped, "Why are you following me?"
"I'm not. What was that device?"
"Are you joking? Do you live under a rock? It's called an iPhone."
"O-o-kay. Anyway. I'm here for someone really important. Do you know Princess Zelda Harkinian?"
"Um, princess? We have a president but we have no princess. We're a democratic republic. Not a monarchy."
"Oh. But do you know anyone named Zelda?"
"Yeah. I'm Zelda Harkinian."
The boy looked at me. Studying me, with those electric blue eyes. Then he gripped my arms forcing me to look at him. "What?!" he looked into my eyes. "It IS you..."
"You're freaking me out."
He hugged me. "My goddesses." He whispered. It sounded like he was trying not to cry. "I've missed you. It's been so long. Seven years. You've grown to be so beautiful."
"Get off!" I pushed him away. "Who the hell are you?!"
The boy's eyes widened. "You don't remember me? At all?"
"I've never seen you before!"
" No. Please be joking. I've waited so long....." He looked at me with such sadness, I almost wished I was joking.
Almost.
"Leave me alone! I don't know who you are you freak!" I ran past him as fast as possible to my school.
"Don't ever speak to me again!"
