The voice was so close, it was almost tangible. She reached out desperate for the warmth of another being, but as soon as her arm was fully extended, she was hit with a whirlwind of emotions. She felt love, hope, anguish, exhaustion and despair surge through her veins, each at a time, washing over her like waves on the shore. With the final wave came a mixture of anger, hatred and annoyance. The emotion filled her body, but unlike the others, it remained inside of her. She felt like the anger had been bubbling inside of her for days on end. She could feel it in every muscle in her body and her head throbbed. She felt as if her heart had been ripped out of her chest. She felt like she would never feel anything again except the dull ache that the violent emotions were leaving her with.
Still suspended in the air with her wings, she closed her eyes, pulled her knees to her chest and rested her throbbing head on them. The hatred finally subsided and she was then soothed with a calmness that ended with hot tears streaming down her face. Relieved and slightly dizzy from the myriad of feelings that had just engulfed her body, she relaxed, stretching her legs out. She opened her blood-shot eyes to find that her golden, feathered wings had disappeared and that she was lying on her side on solid ground.
She sat up slowly, taking in the clear blue sky that was only dotted with thin wisps of white clouds. Looking around, lush green grass stretched up until it met the line of trees that bordered the field.-----------
A massive willow tree loomed over where she lay, its thick wooden limbs stretching like arms into the bright sky, but unlike most willow trees, this one's thin strands of delicate green leaves also reached for the clouds. She finally managed to pull herself from the ground and as she bent to brush off the dirt and grass from her clothes, she discovered she was wearing a peculiar uniform. She had on a grey, pleated skirt that reached just above the knee, a plain white button-down shirt tucked into it. A green and silver striped tie lay neatly over her shirt. A black wad of fabric lay crumpled on the ground next to where she has appeared and as she picked it up she discovered that it was a robe adorned simply with a coat of arms. Running her fingers over the detailed embroidery, she saw that in each quarter of the coat a different creature was depicted in a specific color. In one corner, a red tinted lion was reared up on its hind legs; in the others, a yellow badger, a blue raven and an emerald green snake. As she was looking at the intricate coat, she noticed that the colors on her tie matched the quarter of the coat that held the green snake. A cool breeze rolled through the valley, sending goose bumps up and down her body. She shivered once before pulling the black robe over her shoulders. Finally starting to feel settled down after her experience in the eternal abyss, she lifted her chin and turned about, taking in the place that felt like home. She had turned almost all the way around before she set her eyes upon a massive castle that was perched on the ridge of the valley. Its grey stonework rose up seven stories along with multiple pointed towers. She turned again to take in the glittery surface of the lake that sat in the center of the valley. Its dark black waters appeared to have diamonds set upon every little ripple as the sun shone upon them. She was so content with gazing at the landscape that she let out a small yelp when a voice called her name.
"Liv!" a male voice called from the direction of the castle. She whipped around to find herself looking at the source of the voice. The young man was wearing a uniform as well; his included black pants, a white button-down with a grey sweater over it and a tie tucked underneath, but his reflected the red and gold of the quarter with the lion. He had jet black hair and his green eyes were framed with small, circular glasses. He appeared to be about sixteen or seventeen. The thought made her look down at herself and she internally shrugged as she guessed she was about the same age, but at the same time, what did she know? She couldn't remember a single thing before the eerie, ghost-like forest.
