Family dinner...
Personally not my favorite part of the day. I'm Still tired and barely awake so I slowly approach the dining room table and quietly sat down next to my sister Serena while waiting for our mother to hand us our food. After about five minutes mum comes out with a big bowl, of what? I don't know yet.
When she sets the bowl in the middle of the table I sat up completely straight, trying to get a glimpse of what we were having and to my disappointment it was hamburger helper... Again.
Mom grabbed a great, big cooking spoon and served me and my sister a great amount of it in a bowl.
'Seems like we're always eating this' I silently ponder in my head as I pick at my food once my mum placed two big spoonfuls of it in my plate."So... Serena, how was your day today sweetie?" Our mother asked Serena.
"Ugh... Pretty good mom, nothing new so far." She replied glumly also picking at her food.
"I hear cheer leading is coming up! Are you thinking about joining this year?" Mother asked impatiently.
"Umm, I'm not so sure about cheer. I think I'm gonna focus on my grades this year instead." She replied back trying to sound as casual as she possibly could.
'Oh no, she did not just do that. Moms gonna be furious... Here comes the wrath from mum.' I thought and sighed, just waiting.
"What do u mean your not doing cheer this year, we did not spend all that money for gymnastics for nothing!" She said raising her voice a bit.
While they were bickering back and forth I just looked at dad indicating that he should do something.
"Okay dear... I think your being a bit to harsh on Ren about this." Dad told mum sternly.
"I think not! I'm only telling Serena tha-"
"Mum, please calm down you're making a big deal about this, if Serena doesn't want to do cheer this year, I think it's her choice, don't force her into something she doesn't wanna do." I said as calmly as I could, careful not to raise my voice at her.
"Did I ask you for you're opinion Ren, This has nothing to do with you." She snapped back to me.
'Well at least she was kind enough not to interrupt me.' I thought.
"Sorry." I mumbled back but I did notice that sour face she made after I apologized.
There was nothing left that I could do so I looked at Ren sincerely.
"Can I be excused?" I asked patiently but looked at my father.
"Sure and please don't forgot to rinse your plate too." He responded.
I nodded as I got up, pushed my chair in and grabbed my plate and walked to the kitchen slowly.
I looked at my plate and saw that I didn't eat much at all. 'There went my appetite.' I thought as I scraped all my food into the trash slowly and then remembered what dad said and then rinsed my dish afterwards.
_Flash forward_
'Nothing like spending quality time with the old family.' I said and sighed softly as I plopped on my bed and pulled my cat Malibu close to me.
"Arn't we just the perfect family Mali?" I asked my cat even though I know she couldn't respond but she is a very, very good listener.
