As the bell signalled the start of lunch, students quickly gathered their pens and papers as they slowly started to head their way to the cafeteria.
"Mr. Abrams,"
"Mm," Brenton grunted.
"Mr. Abrams, wake up." A poking motion made his eyes shot up as irritation initiated to crawl through his system. He looked up and saw his History teacher right before him with an aura of authority.
"Do you want to get detention? By the looks of it, I guess you need one." His teacher said firmly as he narrowed his eyes at him. "If you don't get up in five seconds, you are to proceed at the Principal's-"
"Fine! I get it!" Brenton stood up as he slammed both palms forcefully on his desk which startled his teacher. He then gathered his stuff and lazily slung his bag on his shoulder as he stomped to the cafeteria.
As he strode his way, he felt incomplete.
I miss her. He thought sadly.
As he stepped foot on the cafeteria, everyone's averted their gaze to Brenton. They quickly did soft murmurs as Brenton just raised a questioning brow at them. He then skidded his way to the selection of foods before him as he darted his eyes, trying to pick out his desired meal.
After having a mental war between himself, he finally decided to go with tacos and a soda as he sat down on his usual isolated table from everyone. Generally, he didn't mind to eat alone as others were busy chit-chatting with their pals and cliques but now, the loneliness he was feeling now was more than mere loneliness.
He placed his elbow on the table as he rested his chin on his palms. He eyed his food before him, not wanting to take a single bite for his appetite went away.
I hate being alone.
He was in a daze until he felt a presence next to him. He shot his eyes up to the figure as they turned wide as saucers as he saw Kayla standing next to his table holding a tray in her hands.
He slightly opened his lips, trying to come up with a statement or a question but his mind refused to cooperate with him. Kayla tilted her head slightly as she anticipated Brenton to speak up.
"H-hi." Brenton choked out, his eyes still wide.
"Hello." Kayla smiled. He looked adorable all shy and nervous, she thought. "Do you mind if I take a seat next to you?" She hesitantly asked.
"I beg your pardon?" Brenton asked in disbelief. He shook his head as he tried to register of what was currently happening. Did he hear it right? She wants to sit next to him? Why?
Kayla stifled her laugh. "I said, do you mind if I take a seat next to you?" She then again asked.
"Not at all! Here." He inched his way, giving space for Kayla to sit on. She then placed her tray with spaghetti and shake on the table as she comfortably took a seat next to Brenton.
"Thanks." She mumbled.
As both of them were seated together, Brenton heard gasps around as the murmuring sound of the students initiated to go louder. But he didn't mind them. His attention was purely focused on the girl next to him.
Kayla took a sip on her shake as she grabbed her fork and started to eat her spaghetti. She then noticed the untouched tacos and soda. She turned her head to Brenton as she caught him staring at her. She raised a puzzled brow at him, trying to gain his attention.
