“Someone woke up on the right side of the bed today.” Kayla heard Gretchen's amused voice while a blush found its way on her cheeks.

“Er.. no. Am I not allowed to be peppy today?” she raised a questioning brow at her.

Today was a cool weekend; the best time to procrastinate and laze. Knowing Kayla, she wasn't the outdoor type of person so she planned to have a relaxing and quiet session to herself through  her books but it would be impossible since her dear friend, Gretchen, trashed her room at six in the morning to annoy the heck out of her. Gretchen had been skimming through Kayla's closet for hours to check if there were any ‘sexy’ and ‘exposing’ kind of clothes that she owned but as anticipated, there were none. She still won't give up until she tires herself from her clothing expedition.

“Not that you are restricted to, but it's nice to see you sincerely smiling once in a while.” Gretchen replied heartily as she pulled out a navy blue skater dress from Kayla's closet. “I wonder why...”

And that's when Kayla's phone vibrated in her pocket, indicating an incoming call from no one else but the man who she poured out her heart to.

“What a coincidence.” Gretchen smirked at her once she glanced the name flashing on Kayla's phone. Though she is against of her dear friend still in contact with the guy who had quite the reputation, she couldn't just pull her away from him since Brenton hadn't done anything to harm Kayla, but, of course, there were still doubts running in her head and her protectiveness of her bestfriend was still firm and intact.

Kayla ignored the warmth that was slowly consuming her body as she clicked the green button with jittery hands. It had been three days since their last encounter that she couldn't help but miss the guy's presence.

“Hi,” Kayla started.

“Hey,” his smooth voice made her legs feel like jelly that she had to lean on the wall for support. “What's up?”

“Nothing much. Just hanging out with Chenny as usual,” she turned to her bestfriend who had a scowl on her face once she heard the despising nickname. “you?”

“Planning to do an afternoon run, I guess?” she could feel  shrug on the other line.

“Oh, that's fun,” her lips formed into a small smile which piqued the interest of Gretchen. “is there a reason why you contacted me?”

Kayla heard his sharp intake of breath. “I—er, would you like to run with me later?”

“To the mall?”

She heard him chuckle. “Okay, let me rephrase that. Will you mind if I invite you to jog with me later?”

“It's fine with me,” she responded. “but I have to ask Chenny first. Maybe she had plans with me today,” she gave a sideway glance to Gretchen who sat up straight and quickly shook her head no. “on second thought, I'll accept your invitation. I really want to shed off all the red velvet sweets we ate.”

“And once we're done, I'll treat you more red velvet afterwards.”

The corner of her lips lifted up. “You're evil.”

“Pick you up later at four?”

“See you.” then she clicked the red button.

“I can't believe you're leaving me again with that guy.” Gretchen placed a dramatic hand on her chest.
