Min Yoongi always wondered what it was like to live off on his own. So when he finally decided to move out of his parents house, he was quite nervous yet excited at the same time. The two feelings mixed together didn't leave a solid feeling in his stomach.
He had considered getting a roommate, but he didn't feel comfortable living with someone he didn't know well. He didn't have many friends; actually, no close friends at all, just the ones he'd occasionally hang out with whom he knew from college. Plus, those "friends" were already settled down by themselves and he didn't want to bother them with the subject of possibly moving in with him. Yoongi was on his own.
Moving day was rough. He grabbed the last boxes from his room as his mother watched him from the doorway, teary eyed.
"You know, you don't have to go." She spoke softly.
"I've stayed here for too long. I've already graduated from college a couple months ago and I have a stable job." This wasn't the first time Yoongi explained this to his mother. He often had to repeat it or else his mom's words would get the best of him and he'd end up living there for another year or two. "I don't want to live off your support anymore. I want to be more independent."
Sighing, she gave her son a smile. "I know. I'll have to get used to not having you around."
"I'll have to do the same. All the cleaning I'll have to do by myself." He shuddered at the thought. "Bills, rent, don't you just love adulthood?" He chuckled, making his mother laugh with him.
"Tell me about it."
Yoongi looked back at his room one last time before struggling to close the door as he held the boxes.
"Tell dad bye for me?"
"It's not like you'll never see us again." She rolled her eyes.
"It feels that way."
"Don't be a stranger, come visit and call me, keep me updated. Let me know when you're having a housewarming party."
"Housewarming party?!" Yoongi shook his head. The two walked outside the house and to the truck containing all of Yoongi's things. He set the boxes inside and watched as the drivers closed the door.
"Yes Yoongi, a housewarming party for your new home." She paused. "Are you sure you don't want a ride there?" Mrs. Min asked, looking towards her car.
"Positive. I have to learn how to travel by myself. Might as well start now. I'm always relying on you to drive me places."
"Alright, then, if you're sure."
"I'll see you soon, Ma." Yoongi said and hugged his mother. They said their goodbyes and she returned inside Yoongi's childhood home.
"Now how the hell do trains work?" Yoongi furrowed his eyebrows and watched as the moving truck drove away with his things. He was going to meet them at his apartment, however, customers weren't allowed to ride in the truck with the workers. This would be his first time ever riding the train.
He pulled up a train route map on his phone and studied it closely, trying to figure out which trains he would need to get on to get to his apartment. He didn't understand any of it and got extremely frustrated. These were the times when he wished he had someone he was close to to help him out.
He eventually got to the subway station and asked a random woman for help. She told him which transfers he'd need to make at certain stops. Yoongi thanked the lady and quickly sprinted to get to the train.
"Shit, wait, I need a card, don't I." He nodded his head and went to the counter where cards were purchased.
"How many rides?" The man behind the counter asked him.
"What?" He didn't know what he meant.
"How many rides?" The man repeated.
"One?" Yoongi questioned, unsure of what the right answer was. Yoongi handed the man the money and received a card in return. He then went to the entrance to the trains and swiped his card, pushing the bar and going through to the other side.
"She said I need to get on the A train..." He whispered to himself, looking around and seeing no trains in sight. "Do I just wait?" He began to get paranoid and didn't like the unsettling feeling of not knowing what to do.
Five minutes pass and a train shows up, but it was not the A train. Yoongi had been standing too close to the edge and got scared by the gust of wind he felt as the train began to pass by him. He quickly backed up, bumping into a guy behind him.
"Ah, sorry." He panicked.
"It's fine." The blonde smiled and waved if off, averting his attention elsewhere.
Another five minutes pass and a train comes from the other direction.
"Oh thank god." Yoongi let out a sigh of relief when he saw it was the A train. He ran a hand through his silver hair and followed the group of people entering the train.
There weren't any seats in the cart that he got into. He was stuck standing in a crowded corner, holding onto the wall for support. He internally groaned when the train started moving and was lurched backwards. He felt immensely uncomfortable.
He focused every time the train made a stop, listening to the announcer to see if it was his or not. He had to transfer to the C Train.
Many stops later, more and more people began to leave and eventually Yoongi got to sit down. That didn't last very long though because the next stop was his.
"Are you kidding me right now?" He sighed and stood up, exiting the train along with two others before walking across the platform for the approaching C Train.
The cart he got into this time was much more empty, so he was able to get a seat right away.
He just about drifted off to sleep minutes later, but then the doors opened and a voice filled the noisy atmosphere. Everyone stopped talking to listen, and Yoongi sat up, looking around to see who the voice belonged to.
His eyes met a dark haired boy, singing his lungs out and holding a hat out for tips.
