Miles pulled Riley impossibly closer to him as he kissed her. He had wanted to kiss her since the first time he saw her. He wanted to know what it would feel like to kiss her and hold her. He wanted her to be his girl. Miles knew that Riley had feelings for him. Whether she would admit it or not, he wasn't stupid. He could tell that there was something there. The only thing that stood in the way of them being together was her fiance.
Riley was kissing Miles back with the same urgency and need that he was kissing her. Miles moved his hands to her hips. His fingers found the hem of her shirt and he slowly started to slide her shirt up her stomach. That triggered something inside of Riley. She snapped out of the daze that she was in and realized what she was doing. "Miles. Miles stop."
Miles pulled his hands off of her shirt and stepped back from her. He looked down and ran his fingers through his hair. "I'm sorry." He mumbled, clearly embarrassed. Riley sat down on her bed and fixed her shirt. Her hair was messy and her lips were swollen. She had just had a hot and heavy makeout session with someone who wasn't her fiance. Riley put her head in her hands. She was a terrible person.
She felt the bed dip down from Miles sitting down next to her. "Riley, don't be upset." He put his hand on the small of her back.
Riley picked her head up and looked at him. She had tears running down her face. "You don't understand. I just kissed another man. I just made out with a guy who is not the man that I am engaged to. I am engaged Miles, engaged. I just cheated on my fiance." She felt so guilty. She felt dirty almost. She knew that she was going to have to come clean to Mike eventually. Riley couldn't help but wonder if he would break up with her. She deserved it if he did. That only made her more upset.
"It wasn't just your fault. It was my faut too. I kissed you and I shouldn't have. I'm sorry if any problems happen between you and your fiance. I'm sorry if you are upset. But I can't apologize for kissing you because I'm not sorry I did it. And I know that you're not completely sorry about it either."
Riley looked up. She could not believe that he was saying this. "Um, ya Miles. I am sorry that I kissed you. I'm not trying to hurt your feelings by saying this but I am engaged. I can not just be kissing other guys." She crossed her arms. He brought out every emotion in her. He made her laugh and cry and get angry. He made her want to slap him and kiss him at the same time.
Miles scoffed. "Um, well Riley. I have kissed a few girls in my life and I'm telling you that I have never had a kiss like that. That was not a kiss from someone who was sorry it was happening. That was a kiss from someone who wanted it. You're not sorry it happened your sorry that you feel guilty about it. Now, we have to work today. So I'm going to go home and get ready for work. I'll be back to pick you up before work." With that, he got up off of her bed and walked out of her room. Riley heard her door close and flopped down on her bed, exhausted.
Through the next week, Riley only had to work once so she only had to see Miles one day. She avoided him in every way she could. She spent a couple of days at the hospital with Mr. Harrison, who was now doing much better and feeling good. Riley also talked to Mike on the phone a couple of times but she never mentioned Miles or the kiss. She knew that she would have to tell him eventually. She just wasn't ready yet. Miles texted her and called her a few times every day but she ignored both. If she couldn't be with Miles without something going on between them, then she would just avoid him completely.
Riley's phone chimed, making her jump. It was a text from Mike. 'Hey babe, can't wait to see you. Plane just landed. I'll be there soon.' She smiled. Mike was on his way. She hadn't seen him in a week and she couldn't wait to see him again. Riley felt a pain in the pit of her stomach. She didn't know if it was dissapointment or guilt. She couldn't place the feeling but she knew that there was part of her that wasn't looking foward to seeing Mike.
A few hours later, there was a knock on her apartment door. Riley opened to door to see Mike standing there, flowers in hand. She squealed and jumped into his outstretched arms. He kissed her like the world would end tomorrow and when he pulled away, Mike was the first one to speak. "I missed you."
Riley smiled up at him. "I missed you to babe. I love you." She wrapped her arms around his middle and breathed in his familiar scent. Mike wrapped his arms around Riley and drew small circles on her back.
"Are you ok honey?" He was a little concerned. She usually didn't cling to him like this.
She picked her head up and looked at him. "Ya, I just missed you. That's all." She looked like she wanted to say more, but Mike brushed it off. "So, do you want to go get something to eat or we could watch a movie or something?" Riley suggested.
"You know babe, I would love to. But I already have plans with the guys tonight. Maybe tomorrow?." He kissed the top of her head and stepped out of the embrace.
Her face fell. "I have to work tomorrow." She mumbled.
"Honey, I'm sorry. But I haven't seen my friends in a week. But we'll have a lazy movie sometime soon okay? I love you babe." With that, he kissed her one last time and left. Riley just stood there, stunned. He was ditching her to go hang out with his friends? She took a deep breath. That was nothing compared to what she had done.
Riley decided she would just go to bed. After all, she had to work tomorrow. That meant she would have to see Miles. She flopped down on her couch and turned on the TV. Riley flipped through the channels for a while before she fell asleep. She slept for a couple of hours, only to be woken up by one of her horrible nightmares.
She woke up with a feeling of dread. She had to go to work today. Miles was at work. Riley tried to ignore the little excited spark that she felt in her stomach that she knew had something to do with seeing Miles. After showering and changing into her scrubs, Riley put on her makeup, did her hair, and was out the door.
Miles's stupid yet gorgeous face was the first thing she saw when she walked through the door. He smiled at her. She wasn't talking to him. The best thing for them was to stay away from eachother. She brushed past him and kept walking. "Riley. Riley, come on. Can we at least talk? Riley!"
She spun around and faced him. "Miles. I do not want to talk to you. Okay? I think the best thing for both of us is to just leave eachother alone." She turned around and kept walking.
"You can't lie to yourself for ever Riley." She stopped dead in her tracks and turned around with her eyes narrowed.
"What the hell do you mean by that?" She put her hands on her hips, extremely pissed off.
"Oh come on, you know exactly what I'm talking about. You're not sorry that we kissed and you know for a fact that you like me. You just feel guilty because right now you are convinced that you and some other guy are meant to be together." A cocky smirk spread across his face and he stood there with his arms crossed over his chest.
"Ok Miles, listen to me. I am sorry we kissed. If I could take it back I would. I do not like you and I am not only convinced that I am supposed to be with Mike, I know it for a fact." In a split second, Miles was only centimeters from Riley and his arm was wrapped around her waist.
"If you're really sorry that we kissed and you really don't like me, then how come when I get close to you you're hands shake? If you really want me to stay away from you, then why does your heart race when ever I touch you? Riley, if my kiss was that bad then why did you enjoy it so much?" His warm breath blowing across her face caused Riley's body to freak out. He put his face even closer and whispered "I think we would both be lying if we said that we didn't want eachother."
Then, he moved the rest of the way in and kissed her again. All of the sudden, Riley's guilty dissapeared and was replaced by pure want and need. She wanted Miles, she needed him. The kiss was starting to get intense when Riley realized that they were standing in the entry way of the nursing home. She quickly pulled away, face flushed and lips swollen. "We can't do this. Especially not here." Riley managed to get the words out through her gasps.
Miles put his lips next to her ear. "Like I said before, I'm used to getting what I want." He pressed his lips under her ear. He pulled back and walked away, leaving Riley standing there shaking and extremely turned on.
