Chapter 12
I am woken up by the ringing of my phones alarm, greattttt. I'm not much of a morning person and I hate this bloody alarm. I turn it on silent and start getting up to get ready for my morning ride at Bluestone.
...
I eventually arrive at Bluestone at 6:58am, thankfully dad had time to drop me off before he left to head to work. Dressed in a grey long sleeved polo shirt, cross country vest, beige breeches, and my tall boots, I hardly felt cold this morning. I waltz past Breeze's stall to find Scarlett taking her out and putting her on a pair of cross ties.
"Hey" I said walking up to her and leaning against the stall door tiredly.
"I'm going to practice some cross country, want to come?" Scarlett asks glancing at me.
"Yeah sure" I reply giving her a smile before walking off sleepily.
I tow recently fed Storm out of his stall and onto cross ties quickly. The gelding looks at me sleepily before starting to have a snooze. I brush him over and tack him up as fast as I can. I was kind of grateful Scarlett was here because riding alone can be boring at times. I pop on my helmet, gloves and tighten the cross country vest before finally picking up my crop that I carry, since it's a requirement at Bluestone. I go outside and use the mounting block to get onto Storm and then wait for Scarlett who emerges for the barn less then a minute later.
"Let's go" Scarlett says after mounting Breeze, having her walk forwards. I nod and we walk side by side in silence.
"So where do you want to go first?" I ask Scarlett stopping at the gate that leads into the cross country pasture.
"Well, we'll warm them up first then after, I'll will work on Breeze's jumping and you will work on what ever you like" Scarlett states. I nod and push open the gate while still on Storm. Scarlett follows me in and I push it shut again before asking Storm to trot. I do trotting for a couple minutes and then start cantering him.
Once we are warmed up I walk Storm to a ditch jump he knows all to well. He stops and throws his head up before backing away, Storm hates ditches. I turn him around and get him into a canter before turning to the ditch and go to jump it, but he stops and send me flying into his neck face first. I wince and rub my nose, my nose had smacked against his neck when he raised his head after refusing causing a shooting pain to go up into my face. We walk it off though and before I know it we go back and continue trying, but this time I'm cautious.
After a while of me continuously asking him to attempt it, Storm starts listening and jumping the ditches but with major attitude such as pig rooting and kicking out. Soon enough it is 8:30am and lots of people are arriving at Bluestone. Since the sun was making it hotter, Scarlett and I call it quits for this morning, but not before making plans to have a practice at 2pm in the indoor arena.
..............
I hose down Storm, his legs especially, for the final time, after the hour and 15 minutes of jumping. Storm deserved a wash down to cool him off even though he was naughty, it would have been unfair if I didn't. I then turn the hose off and scrape the excess water off, today was an amazing day, not a cloud in the sky so I decide to put him out in the pasture with his friends. Storm takes off galloping and playfully bucks when I release him, he was happy to be out after all the constent bad weather and flooding. This makes me smile fondly, I was happy that today was such a good day. I pull my phone out as I walk away from Storms pasture and back to the barn. I had 5 messages and a missed call from my mum, I check them all.
Mum: You must still be riding right now, I just want to let you know that I called up EFA today to confirm we will be going to that orientation day next week, also when you get home can you let Lucy out. I get home at 5pm, love you.
Mum: And don't forget to put your stuff in the washing machine
As you have probably guessed by now my mum is a organised person, she has to be since she has 4 photography shops to run. She usually is at the office in the city organising photoshoots and the photography shops she owns in Paris, New York, London and Forestlake. But lately she has been spending more time at home with me when I'm not riding.
Me: Okay will do!
I respond to her before checking my other 3 messages.
Emily: Hey! Do you want to hang out at 9:30am, that's when Merlin is getting trailered over??? Also what are you up to Sunday, want to go shopping?
Emily: And I decided to drop out of the competition tomorrow, it would be silly to trailer Merlin over to my place and back to Bluestone in the morning, plus he hates trailers. Hope you don't mind, I'll be cheering you on though!!
Me: That's fine, I understand and yeah I'll come over at 9:30, not sure about the shops though, I'll check with my parents.
I respond to Emily quickly and then open up the last message from Mia, the girl I made friends with at the EA state qualifiers.
Mia: Hey, I'm in your area right now and coming to see Scarlett's new horse at Bluestone at 3pm, you should come to!
Me: I'm actually practicing with her at 2pm so I will most likely be around. :)
After responding to her I put my phone in my pocket since it was 8:47am I had enough time to walk to my place and get changed. I leave my crop, cross country vest and helmet in my locker at Bluestone before walking home which took about 15 minutes.
I push my door open and close it behind me so Lucy won't get out. Since it was 9:03 I quickly took a shower and let Lucy into the back yard by unlocking her doggy door. I dry my hair quickly and change into a pair of jeans, a dark grey V-neck top from H&M then put on the paddock boots. Once I'm done I start walking to Emily's at 9:27. Thankfully it had started to warm up so I didn't need a cardigan. In less then a minute I'm at Emily's front door and before I knock it's flung open and Emily squeals.
"He's coming, he's coming!!!" She cries in excitement. I roll my my eyes at her teasingly, which earns me a dead arm.
"Owwww" I whine rubbing my arm where she hit me.
"Don't roll your eyes, I'm just so excited!!" Emily says trying to contain herself.
"Yah think?" I tell her laughing.
"Come on, you to see what I got!" Emily says dragging me through her house and out the back door. Her dog Angel barks excitably and rushes after us.
"So I know I went a bit overboard but do you think the paddock is good enough, and what about over there, should I use that as the riding area?" Emily says pointing at two separate paddocks.
"Woman, you need to relax and wait for Hailey to get here" I tell her shaking my head, and funny enough as I say that her phone dings.
"They're here!" She cries pointing at her phone.
"Well go get your horse!" I say dragging her through the house again and out the front where I see a trailer. I hear Merlin neighing, he hates being in trailers. I then see Hailey emerge from the car greeting Emily's mum, she had all the signed paper work with her.
"He's not much of a happy horse" Emily's mum tells us.
"Let's get him out" Hailey says.
