Chapter 14

The annoying ringing of my phones alarm wakes me up to a sunny day. I really didn't want to get out of bed but I do, today I will be going to the cross country fund raising schooling show.

After having a shower I put on my navy breeches, grey polo and tall boots on before picking up my helmet and vest. I walze down the stairs to the kitchen and have some breakfast. Since it'll be a while until I needed to go to the barn my parents and I decide to sit down and watch movies since it was a day off for them.

...

By 1:30pm mum, dad and I head off to Bluestone. Since it was busy my parents let me out beside the barn then drive off to find a park. People were busily taking care of there horses next to their floats doing things like brushing, hosing and tacking up. I didn't expect it to be this busy.

"Get out of the way!" a girl snapped. Typical.

"Sorry" I respond stepping aside.

She walks past glaring at me, there's always these type of girls at shows.

Once she's out of the barn I head over to Storm who is lazily munching on hay. I put his halter on and place him on an empty pair of cross ties before getting to work. I groom him until he's sparkling then braid his mane and tail, as soon as this is done I tack him up. It's 2:39pm by the time I'm done and mounting Storm, so I have 10 minutes to warm up.

"Hi Taylor" someone says, I turn and look to my side and see Jaz walking beside me. Good grief, what does she want.

"Hey Jaz, what's up?" I ask kindly, even though I'm still mad at her.

"There is someone who wants to see Storm later today at 5, can you make sure he's all clean, neat and tacked up, buyers are so picky" Jaz huffs. I look at her trying to see if she's serious. She is.

"Sure" I tell her in monotone.

"You're great, thanks" she responds smiling before bouncing off.

I roll my eyes and enter the warm up ring and start trotting and cantering storm around before attempting any jumps. We canter towards a 90cm jump to start off, it was easy. We pop over it but I hear a tap, I didn't want to be knocking any jumps at this point. Storm could do a lot better. I go around a few more times and jump it before going over the 95cm jump, this is as high as Bluestone has us go since the jumps aren't that big. But today Storm was being a little fresh but also lazy if that makes sense. I check the time and decide to head over to the paddocks where the cross country was.

"Rider number 27 to the starting gate please" someone says over the speaker. That's me!

I quickly trot over to the starting gate and get prepared. The guy by the gate counts down from three.

"Go" he says.

Storm lunges into a canter straight away and we're off. The first jump was on the far end of the paddock, a small brush jump, easy. As we approach Storm slows down but I don't let him refuse, I encourage him forwards and jump over it.

As we go around the course we fly over every jump, Storm was being a lot better now that we are in the fields. After going over about 15 jumps I only had a couple more to do.

The next jump was close to us so there was no need to gallop, it also was a water jump. The way that it was designed was so that the horse jumps over a log into the water then jumps again to get out.

Even though Storm is being good now I decide to steady the pace so he doesn't hit the log, better safe then sorry

Even though Storm is being good now I decide to steady the pace so he doesn't hit the log, better safe then sorry. As we come towards it he hesitates but the second I tap him he surges forward, but it was to late. For some reason he takes off a stride early, his back legs catching on the fence.

I end up being flung into the next jump which made of wood then rebound back into the water where Storm stumbles over and lands on me.
