Chapter 5

Joshua kissed me softly as everything melted around us. I wrapped my arms around his neck, smiling against his lips. Moonlight poured in through the windows, masked by lacy white curtains (not his choice, of course. Margaret's), and casting everything in a milky glow. The only light in the room. I pulled away, sinking back into the mound of fluffy pillows. Joshua propped himself up above me, his elbows next to my head. I stroked his chin with the back of my hand. He smiled, kissing my palm.

"Ember...I'm sorry about what happened earlier. I overreacted. I shouldn't have-"

I cut him off with a kiss. Laughing, he brought his face back down.

"Don't apologize. Isn't doing this enough?"

He nodded, cupping the back of my neck and bringing me in for another smoldering kiss. His other hand rested on my hip, stroking the cotton of the oversized t-shirt I borrowed from him. Chills ran through me. Excited chills.

"I guess so. I do have an irking feeling that you told me you couldn't share stuff with me before."

I shrugged. Maybe I did, maybe I didn't. Honestly, I don't care. I just don't want to argue. We didn't talk for a long time after that, kissing and laughing. Garret would kill me if he knew this is how I was spending my nights. Oh well.

"I'm going to miss you." he whispered, placing a small kiss under my ear.

The fact that we were going to colleges all the way across the country from each other still bothered me.

"I'm going to miss you too, Josh. What if guys try to hit on me? Who else will beat them up?"

Joshua laughed, his chest shuddering. I love his laugh.

"You."

I laughed again, nodding as he kissed my shoulder, pushing away the slightly oversized t-shirt's sleeve. I am definitely going to miss this boy.

"It's no fun that way."

Look at us, laughing and kissing and joking. Quick argument? Sure, I'll take that over a long argument any day. His hands trailed down to my lower back, kneading it gently. Cue the excited chills. I yawned.

"You're exhausted." Joshua said.

I nodded. Yes, I am. Do I want this to end? Hell no. But, Joshua rolled off of me, wrapping his arm around me from behind and sweeping my unruly auburn hair away from his face. I curled into him, warm and safe. He kissed the back of my neck.

"Good night, Ember."

"Good night, Joshua."

I slept soundly that night.

(Hello! Okay, okay, I'll admit it. I like writing these scenes. They make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. This is the kind of boyfriend I want to share my life with. Why can't you be real, Joshua?!?! Why, why, why, why, why, why, WHHHHY???? Anyway, in case any of you saw, I deleted the last chapter five because I meant to write this one before it and then I accidentally skipped this one. Oops. But it's okay now!)
