Chapter 13

"No way! You're trying for Alpha Gamma Beta too?!"

My head shot up, breaking my concentration between me and my laptop. Standing above me, spotting the sorority invitation sticking out of my bag, was a girl. She wore designer clothes and looked a lot like Ariana, minus the blue eyes and blonde hair. Unlike Ariana, her hair was dark brown and her eyes were a mossy green. She held out her hand to me as I stood up, dusting grass off my butt and picking up my bag. I thanked her.

"No problem. So, what do you think they're going to make us do? My sister graduated last year and she was a part of Alpha Gamma Beta. They made her run through campus in her bra and panties, screaming, 'I just had sex!'"

I chuckled as I clutched my laptop to my chest, walking alongside the girl. And what the hell is she talking about?

"Excuse me?" I asked.

The girl laughed as if it was the most hilarious thing she'd ever heard. I laughed too. what is going on?

"Initiation, duh. All the sorority girls gotta do it. That's what they're doing tonight."

I nodded, understanding. Oh, okay. Now that makes sense. Initiation. Whatever it is, I'm sure I'll ace it anyway. I mean, seriously, spy here.

"Well, that's...intersting." I said, trying to find a word that wasn't so harsh.

The girl shrugged. We turned a corner. Campus was packed today. People sat in groups on the grass, chatting and doing whatever. A few people played football and frisbee. I saw a few students with instruments, playing them in a small group. They were good. Teachers occasionally walked by, getting ready for classes to begin tomorrow.

"By the way, my name's Amber." said the girl walking beside me.

I smiled, shaking her outstretched hand.

"I'm Ember."

Amber raised an eyebrow. Okay...

"Ember? I like that name. It's unique! Unlike mine..."

"What're you talking about? It's only one letter different from mine!"

Amber giggled, shrugging. I rolled my eyes.

"True. So, Ember, where you from? I grew up in New York."

Hence her accent.

"I live in DC."

Amber oohed.

"Nice! I went there last summer with my boyfriend, Ethan. His parents have a house there for the summer. It was beautiful."

Yup, she's rich. Not that you can't tell anyway. I mean, look at her. Brand name designer clothes everywhere! Even her bag bore the Gucci emblem in gold. Her and Ariana would get along so well together...

"Yeah, DC's great. Anyway, I should probably be going. Nice meeting you!"

Amber nodded, waving as I walked away towards my dorm building. Not many people are indoors today with the weather being so nice, but I've already spent a total of five hours sitting on the quad watching movie after movie. I love college.

At eight o'clock sharp, I arrived at the sorority house of Alpha Gamma Beta. Crowding around the building, looking as nervous as I felt, were more freshmen. I caught sight of Amber talking to another girl who looked exactly like her. Twins. Amber spotted me, smiling and waving. I waved back, walking over to her. She greeted me with a crushing hug. I stiffened at first, caught by surprise, but hugged her back after a moment.

"Ember! You made it! I was starting to worry you'd given up! Anyway, Ember, this is my sister, Stephanie. Steph, this is Ember. We met earlier today on the quad."

Stephanie smiled at me, waving. I waved back.

"It's nice to meet you." she said.

"Same here." I replied.

Suddenly, the front door opened and six girls, clad in pink sweatshirts and sweatpants, stepped out onto the porch. It fell silent. I recognized Amy from earlier, front and center. She cleared her throat before talking.

"Welcome, freshmen! As most of you know, tonight is a very special night. Initiation! So, without further ado, I give you our little ring leader this evening, Chloe."

A girl with bleach blonde hair stepped forward, smirking at us. Each freshman watched her intently. Amber's grasp on my arm tightened anxiously. She didn't even realize she was doing it.

"All right, bitches, let's get this party started! Freshmen, follow me. I hope you're ready, 'cause we're pulling out the big guns tonight!"

Amber squealed next to me, liking arms with her sister and I as we followed Chloe with the mob of other hopeful freshmen. Girls around me whispered excitedly, shushing eachother whenever they felt it got too loud. I was ready for anything they might throw at me. How hard can it be? Honestly. Standing in a parking lot, Chloe stopped us mid-step. I raised an eyebrow, confused. Next to me, Amber seemed just as confused.

"What the fuck?" she whispered under her breath.

Stephanie used a more harsh curse word that I've only heard a small number of times before. How does she even know that word? Chloe smiled devilishly at us as a black van pulled up. Red flags went off in my head, my training kicking in. I forced myself to keep calm. It's all part of the initiation...right? If not, I have some Gucci-clad asses to kick. The back doors to the van opened, revealing two people dressed in black and wearing ski masks. I could tell by the way the clothes hung off their bodies that they were female and, no doubt, the other members of Alpha Gamma Beta. A strand of strawberry blonde hair stuck out from one of the masks. Amy.

"Get in, my bitches." Chloe instructed, ushering each girl into the van.

It was a tight squeeze, but I took a seat next to Amber. We barely fit into the van. Chloe shut the doors with a loud bang, startling some of the more timid looking girls. I remained calm and collected. Amber freaked out silently, as did Stephanie.

"Where do you think they're taking us?" another girl whispered to her friend, sitting shoulder-to-shoulder like everyone else.

"I don't know but I'm freaked out right now."

"Ditto."

I smirked a tiny smirk, crossing my arms over my chest and relaxing. Out of my peripheral, I saw some of the girls trying to mimic my composure. They all failed tragically. Sorry, girls. No one can mimic Ember Rhinehart. Really, people have tried before. No one could. The car lurched forward. I felt the wheels under me, rolling over the bumpy city pavement. With no windows for us to look out of, we sat in semi-silence. My anticipation grew and I had to retrain even more of my actions. Being locked in the back of a dark van, driving to an unknown destination with total strangers. Not an ideal place to keep a spy. Eventually, I fell asleep to keep myself from completely going ninja on the sorority girls. Just a cat nap.

(Hey guys! Please pardon spelling and grammar. I wrote this on my iPod because my laptop is charging. Vote and comment! What do you think initiation is? I can't wait to write the next few chapters! I promise, kick ass spy scenes to come! Bye bye for now!)
