I had waited for so long, but it was finally here! The day I turned 12 years old. I woke up at 9:03 in the morning, yawned and stretched. I stared at my bedsheets for a while, thinking hard. Today I would finally have an adventure. I would do something big! I jumped out of bed, and dashed downstairs. There stood my mom and dad, with their arms open wide. I dashed to them, hugging them.

Then Dad said, "Here, have a pancake!" I took 5 and wolfed them all down. I decided that was enough. My parents grinned at each other. I quickly walked over to the pile of my presents on the table. There was a small pile from my parents, and a small pile from my relatives.

I tore them all open, anxious to see all the presents. "Careful there, sweetie! You don't want to break it!" My mother said to me as I ripped open a particularly fragile present, containing a china doll. I took a liking to it at once. I dashed upstairs to deposit all my presents and change into my special birthday outfit, containing my favorite pair of white jean shorts and a pretty purple shirt with a Dumbledore quote on it, saying "The last enemy that shall be conquered is death. -Albus Dumbledore", my galaxy converse, a peridot antique necklace that I had received for my 9th birthday, and a blue watch which I had just gotten. I proceeded back downstairs with my favorite presents, hearing the train as I walked down our old stairs. I smiled. I heard the train go by everyday, but today it seemed different. As though it was wishing me a happy birthday.

I walked over to my parents, and my dad said, "So what do you want to do today, pal? The days all yours!" I smiled and laughed. I loved both my parents so much. They were everything any kid could wish for.

"Let's watch TV!" I said enthusiastically. My mom laughed and my dad put an arm around me.

"We should've known!" said my mom, still laughing. As we sat down at the TV and cuddled, flipping through the channels, I noticed that the train sound just kept getting louder. It should have gone away by now... I shrugged, and kept surfing the channels.

15 minutes later, the train sound was so loud we couldn't hear the TV at 35 level sound. So we decided to play a game of Monopoly. As my mom and I were setting up, my dad went into the kitchen to prepare snacks. But just then, I heard a crash. I jumped up, glanced outside. I saw we were surrounded by clouds.

Then I heard the fire alarm go off and I smelled smoke. My mother grabbed my hand, trying to pull me to the door, but I resisted. We had to get my dad from the kitchen! "We have to get d-daddy!" I yelled to her.

"He'll be fine! We need to get out to save ourselves!" I took a last glance at the kitchen, and dashed towards our door. When we were outside, I got a quick glance at telephone pole that had crashed into the second floor of our house, and the flames that were swiftly engulfing my house, before my mom shoved me down flat on the ground, and layed down on top of me. Within seconds, I heard an explosion, my mother flew off me, and I lay there panting, alone.
