"Okay, so the people who kidnapped you were definitely puppets. They were working for something more superior, which sucked because they didn't have enough budget for everything," Martha explained as I adjusted my earpiece.
I was in the secret room trying to figure out the people who had kidnapped me before. I laid out the transparent board to place pictures obtained from the scene.
DAA was written on the center. I encircled it and wrote a question mark. I glanced at the other pictures that were taken in the container an the pier. It was two guys unconscious on the ground with their backs facing the camera. I knew these two were connected since I saw some of them had a small dragon tattoo either at the back of their wrist, the back of the neck, or their bicep. Using my red whiteboard marker, I drew a connecting line between DAA and those pictures.
"What we couldn't figure out was the motive. We think this act was to threaten your parents, somewhat like a wake-up call to them, not to you. You were taken as bait probably to lure out your parents. But we can't be certain, you have to watch yourself out there, for all we know there might be another attempt." I slumped on my office chair.
I figured that it could be the DAA since they were our big rival but what doesn't click is the funds. I know the DAA has enough funds like us to hire qualified agents and better guns and equipment but the people from the pier were like amateurs, and like I said, they didn't even have the good stuff.
"I can't dismiss any more information for you since all that's left are for your parents."
That means there was more to this. "You can't do that. Look, I'm the victim here, I think I deserve what information there is left!" I argued.
"Sorry, Jess. We understand, but this info is strictly for your parents," Mark replied with an apologetic voice. I groaned in frustration.
"Fine, I'll be off, I have somewhere to be," I bid my goodbyes and removed the earpiece.
I walked towards the small hole but shot a quick look at the board. DAA. I crawled back to my room. I looked at the time and figured I should drop by Wade's house to check upon him.
No, that's not what you think, I'm doing this since it is part of my job to know his status. As I get out of my room, I almost bumped into Jordan who was suspiciously leaning by the door.
"Were you trying to eavesdrop?" I asked as I placed my coat over my shoulders and through the arm holes.
He just smiled sheepishly and I hit him on the back of his head. "Ow!" he yelped as he rubbed the back portion of his head.
"Served you right, you little nutcracker," I muttered as we both headed downstairs.
"Why are you here anyway? You could've just knocked," I asked as I took out my keys. Jordan cleared his throat which made me glance at him with one of my eyebrows raised.
"I just had to be where my primary agent is," He wiggled his eyebrows. I rolled my eyes.
Goddamit, still a habit.
"I didn't bring my car with me." I knew what he meant so I sighed in defeat and nodded my head to which he immediately sat on the passenger seat of the car.
"Wear your seatbelt, idiot," I said as I quickly jammed my foot on the gas and drove off.
"Do you always drive like this?" he asked, a little bit terrified as he grabbed his seatbelt and the handle above his head tighter.
"Drive like what exactly? Like this?" I teased as I step more on the gas as the speedometer reached 150 km/h.
"I can drop you off, where do you live?" I asked curiously as I jerk my head in his direction.
